How do you feel about New Year's resolutions?

A good tool for self-improvement? A way to set yourself up for failure? Something that no one follows through with? Something that helps to keep you focused?

What do you think?

I have made them before and this is what I have learned: Unless you are ready to make a change and committed to make a change, turning over a page on our calendar does no good.

You can make a change, truly make a change, anytime, on any date, and those tend to "stick" longer than a New Year's Resolution.

I think they are pretty useless. I don't make them.

I whole heartedly agree Claire!!!

I think most people think new year means new beginnings and they start off real strong in the beginning but then lost their momentum because they are not COMMITTED to making the change...they were just going through the motions.

I think that if you truely want to make them work they will.
Me and dh have big ones this year. Ive spent the last week making a plan of how it WILL work and how were going to do it. and putting it on paper, and putting it in our household folder.
i didnt leave much room for failure!

I don't make them either. But I do have a journal that I write in on every New Years Eve and I write about the whole year ( what made it great, what was memorable), and things that I would like to do better or different and thoughts like that....but not any resolution, just thoughts that come to mind. It brings closure for that year and welcomes in the new year for me.

Thanks, I didn't have to type all that out!

We have never been big new years resolution makers in this house. This year my DH and I have made a resolution and we are going to try very hard to keep them. We will see.

New Years is more of a time to reflect for me -- where did this past year go and where I hope to see this new year end. Though I usually come up with one resolution -- this year's is to not to consume as much plastic in my products!
