I don't know about you, but this term irritates me. I'm not sure why manufacturers need to emphasize one group of sizes more than another. I mean, it makes sense to have "juniors" and "misses" which to me shows a generational thing (let's face it, we don't dress like the teens) but why do we need to emphasize "plus" sizes?
My mom fit into this group a few years ago and she said it embarassed her so much that she literally stopped eating. I mean, I can certainly see it as a motivating factor, but I am sure that is NOT why it was created in the first place.
Why do they marginalize this size of women?
If you are plus size, does it bother you to be "plus size" or does it make you more comfortable to be amongst shoppers that are within your same size?

Unfortunately- I am in the somewhat "plus" size catagory- all because of my body shape. Don't get me wrong- I can lose more weight (will be working on that more this upcoming year!)- but I have an akward body shape- always have. I am short, just barely 5'2"- but I have a curvy body (mainly curvy on the bottom half- I have a booty and hips- saddlebags too! The top half is shoulders- wish I would be a little bit more curvy in the chest area though !)- but long legs and a short torso. So when I go looking for a new shirt/top- I usually have to look in the petite section. For pants- even jeans I usually have to look in the plus size- because Juniors are cut to thin and womans size hits me wrong in the crotch area and of course petites are too short (unless i want to rock that "gangsta" look ). Once I go into the plus size section (usually a store) and find jeans that are comfortable for my butt, hips- I have to then go to a tailor and have the jeans altered so they wil fit my smaller waist. It is sort of disappointing shopping- since i get looks from the petites since I don't "fit" into their clothes- yet if I got into a plus size store to get a pair of jeans i get looks since I don't "fit" into thier clothes. So for me- I find it uncomfortable because I don't fit into any catergory- my DH calls me a misfit! Actually when I was younger- I would wear Levi's button fly mens jeans (actually I think they were boys size)- and those were the only jeans I would not have to alter (but I would probably look really out of date if I was to wear them!).
- I was just talking to my oldest about the clothing sizes. She agrees that there should be 2 sections- skanky and old lady- of course she was just teasing! See what I mean by her being 11 going on 18?!
I do think that it should be catergorized by juniors, misses, and womans (I perfer woman over plus!).

On top of that, manufacturers, in my opinion, make clothing smaller than it should be anyway. There are times I have had to buy an XL just so the clothing would fit me properly...and in my perception, I am not an XL. It makes me feel sorrier for those girls who would be an XL and can't fit into it!

You should try shopping for snow ski pants! They are the most unforgiving item of clothing I've had to deal with. They are not relaxed in the seat & thigh. When you go up a size the waist is too big. I found a pair that I hope last forever... but it was a challenge.
