The first step to gaining back control is to recognize your habits. Firstly, eating at night is the WORST time to eat. The food you eat, especially after 7pm, mainly sits in your stomach and does not digest the way it should...top that with the fact you are going to bed shortly thereafter and you've just eaten what most people consider their biggest meal: dinner. All that food is now stationary because you are stationary. Keep that in the back of your mind. Notice most people don't feel this way during the day. They are up and moving around more times than not.
It's always a good rule of thumb to eat more smaller meals throughout the day so that you don't overindulge. You will always feel content if you stomach is always digesting something and it's not just sitting there.
Exercise is also a great tool to help get your system back on track. If your problem is fullness, exercise will help keep things moving. It makes you regular and speeds up your metabolism! (which is a good thing).
