We have cut hydrogenated oils and hfcs out of our diet. I recently realized that one of our fave treats (Flat Earth - Baked Fruit Crisps) have fructose listed as an ingredient. It is pretty far down on the ingredient list and I have pacified by saying, "It isn't one of the 1st 4 ingredients so I'll get them anyway." Here's my question...

What is the difference between fructose and hfcs? I have researched (a bunch) and can't get any difinitive answers as to if fructose is just as bad as hfcs.
Any help?

Fructose is better than HFCS. HFCS is not natural. It is a manufactured, genetically modified sweetner. Fructose is a naturally occurring carbohydrate.

Skimommy gave a great description -- fructose (my understanding) is pretty much just sugar in its somewhat normal state. HFCS is pretty much chemical engineering at its worst.

I think the best route, when possible, is to keep whatever you're eating in as close to its natural state as possible.
