I hate it!!! This getting old thing really sucks! I have always been the kind of person, who just does what needs to be done. Need painting done, I do it. Need flooring installed, I do it. Bathroom needs cleaning, grass needs mowing, whatever, I just do it. My body is starting to protest, and I really, really hate it!!! I was just scrubbing my kitchen floor on my knees (who ever thought of a textured finish for a floor ought to be shot!!!) and I had to stop. I just had such a pain in the muscle of my chest wall that I could not stand it (I have a very high threshold for pain!). Between that and the arthritis in my knees and hips and the Plantar facitius in my feet, not to mention my allergies gone wild, I just don't ever feel pain free anymore. I really feel like I am too young to be losing my independence!! I want to be able to do it all. UGH!!!!!! I just hate to pay people to do things that I know I am capable of doing.

Happymom, this concerns me. How often do you get this pain in your chest?

It is just muscle pain. I have been using my arm waaaay too much. I have done a lot of painting and staining, then I was scrubbing (after working all day, then painting fences, giving baths, and generally being tired.) The pain is in my upper chest muscle connected to the movement of my right arm. I just took my night time hand full of pills (I hate that too, but they are all dr prescribed) so I should be good for awhile. I don't have to go to work tomorrow and only have 5 more fence posts to paint and a small part of the kitchen floor to finish scrubbing. So I should feel somewhat better.

You have had such a busy summer. Are you sure about that chest pain being a muscle? I am concerned as well.

Believe me, I'm right there with ya. It's one thing to not be able to accomplish things, but if you can't control your own body, it's no fun. I've had chest pains (lots today), and I'm on a new med, which I think is contributing 'cause he said it could cause an upset stomach) because the old one was causing dangerous swelling and quick weight gain. Anyway, both my primary Dr. and neurologist feel it's from reflux or heartburn, which they say have the same symptoms, including shortness of breath, pain under the left jaw, pain or numbness on the left arm and hand and numbness/tingling down the leg to the foot.

It's hard aging. Alzheimers has run in our family, so that scares me.

Why not recruit the help of your strong, hard working, responsible children? You've clearly done so much for them over the years, now that they are grown, they can start helping out around the house and do some of these jobs that you can't do yourself anymore.

I guess this is where I need to change my way of doing things And dh has to let go of his perfectionism!!! I have just always done pretty much everything myself.

I am sorry that your daily work has become so tough. I have had to rely on help since I became sick with mono. It's difficult for me but I had to give up my pride and spend some money to get certain things done. I hope that you take good care of yourself.
