I am sure this has been discussed many times before..........I am looking for your opinion on Curves and wondering if it really works. My new insurance will cover a portion of it (if I faithfully go monthly) and would like to have some opinion before I start. I really need to do something. TIA

I did Curves for a while year and saw nothing a few inches but that was it didn't loose any weight at all. I talked to my doc about it also and he didn't recomend it unless I was going to do more than just that. It gets pretty routine and I feel you are always working the same muscles in the same order and they get use to it.. I did have more energy and it was harder and harder to keep my heart rate up. They say to go 3 times a week but if you want to see results you have to go every day and then to a little more too on your own. I started to go around the circuit 3 times and the people working there told me that if I hade to do that then I wasn't working my self hard enought on the mechines but it is hard to since they are all hydralic and they only go so fast no matter how hard you push/pull....I didn't think that was pretty suportive of the staff. Also the owner her self was over 350 lbs and had been owner for more than 3 years. I was suprised when I learned that. They did a lot of fun activies to keep you going but I have found I have gotten better use and money out of my treadmill/ and I just joined Weight Watches on line.

I don't care for Curves because it is hydraulics instead of actual weights. You can sort of half do it too easily. I joined Contours, which is a circuit training place like Curves for women only, done in half an hour, etc. The only difference is that you are actually lifting weights. So, if you really wanted to, you could skip the circuit and just do weights. I have seen a lot of women do that.

I have not lost a ton of weight, but I can tell I am much more toned and stronger. I have lost inches, too. The weight is my own fault because you can't expect to only exercise to lose weight - you have to change your diet. I do WW, too, for that, but have been in a rut the past few months. Again, my own fault.

BUT, if you need to do SOMETHING and that is what your insurance will help you with, then my opinion is it is better than doing NOTHING.
