I was reading this interview with Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Loser ( 5 things I learned from Jillian Michaels)

And this quote was like a smack in the head...

"Losing weight is not about willpower--it's about moments of bravado, like the moment when you ask your waiter to take the bread away from the table right away."

What do you think? Agree? Disagree?

I would tend to agree. It's not about a life of denial and will power...it is more about repeatedly making good decisions/choices.

I was just going to come post this! I totally agree with her on every topic. I've seen my husband lose near 50 lbs in a little over 2 months, and it's definitely a moment-to-moment thing, like she mentions.

After years of fighting my willpower and loosing, I finally have figured out that if I can "suffer" thirty minutes of being brave (walking at 5:30am each day!), the will power doesn't become as important. So what that it "wins" when I loose it.....I KNOW I am going to loose it...but at least I have those thirty brave minutes standing behind me each day. It makes such a difference.

I agree! Taking control of your destiny (in a sense) and making the decision to make your life that important, is what losing weight is all about.

Oprah has said in the past that she too tells the waiter not to bring the bread basket to her either. She said it saves her!

I agree 100%. I have no willpower.

If I can control the hunger (by eating enough fruit, veggies, and protein) then I don't need willpower except when it comes to pie and chips and I just keep those out of the house so I don't need any willpower.

I agree! It does take the willpower to push through it! There have been many of times along my journey that my willpower was tested but I pushed through it.
