For those of you tight on a budget, but still paying for your monthly gym membership fees, is it worth it to you? OR are you having doubts about keeping it?

What can you do at home that you can do at the gym?

A lot of people are self-motivated enough to get outside and workout without a gym. I, on the other hand, could never do it. (Sadly, I have tested myself before and failed.) I really need a gym.

I wish I were one of those people who would just go outside and run or hike or bike.

Our gym membership is not a financial burdern to us (Dh's company pays for it), but we have belonged to gyms in the past that we ended up cancelling just due to many things, including cost. Things like crowded classes, classes at times that weren't convenient, no pool etc

I think there is a lot you can do at home with simple hand weights, exercise balls etc You can walk/run around your neighborhood, or drive to an area that has walking/running trails. You can bike at home (provided you have bike) etc

I think its great to have a gym if you need it. I did need it and I love the Y but financial times are a changing here right now so I just gave it up last week however lately for me its been a waste of monthly money my foot still isnt the same since I had surgery and now that the kids are done for awhile with swim it was just a monthly donation to the YMCA!

For me I need the gym or else I won't do it or I don't feel like I pushed myself as strong! I just need the atmosphere of the gym & sweat

Our gym membership is priceless. The only way we would give it up is if we absolutely had to or if we could afford to put our own gym in the house. There is no way that I could get the workout I get at the gym at my house using what I have here now. I do wish the gym were cheaper though. On the plus side, if we go 100 times in a year our insurance reimburses us $250 (dh and I already earned $500 back for this year).
