I think people in general take better care of their bodies than they do their minds. It's important we have a balance of mind and body. When our minds are burdened with emotional stress we need to seek help for that and not be ashamed of it.

Let's see how many of us have actually used a mental health professional

I love my therapist as she helps keep me sane in my crazy life. I've been with her for 4 years now. I also saw one during my college years.

I saw a therapist for about 9 months during/after my divorce. It was immensely helpful and I'd recommend it to anyone.

When both of the boys died I went to a therapist for months to learn how to cope with the lost and the guilt that I felt, beginning a carrier of the disease that claim their lives.

Also I took dd during this time too.

It takes more guts to admit that you have a problem and seek help, than it does to denied that anything is wrong.

DH & I both did before we got married. We had things that we needed to work through before I felt comfortable enough to get married. We stopped going because I felt like the lady was blaming me for everything. Although she did talk DH into getting put on medication for his ADHD.

I have gone alone, and dh and I went together.

with OP, it is a sign of strength and I highly, highly reccomend it. TBH, it probably saved our marriage at one point.

Yes, I've been to more than one talk therapist and my experiences have been mixed. At one point I was going through a depression that was so bad, I kept having to search out new therapists to find one that worked. I remember finally being referred to a psychiatrist and knowing immediately that person wasn't going to be of any use. Why does everyone want to start with a discussion of my childhood?!??! For heavens sakes, at the time I was in my 40's. I had more experiences as an adult then I had as a child! Anyway, I'm better now. I don't think I'll need to consult a talk therapist again. I don't think I have anything else left to therap.

Always remember, it is the healthy people who seek help!
