We are not only trying to be greener, but trying to save money as well! We go to a local non-profit that re-sells building materials. We picked up a couple dozen red cement roofing tiles and used them as borders for the front garden beds. They were less than a dollar a piece and I get compliments all the time!

This year, we are planting blueberry bushes to save on buying them or getting them imported. My daughter loves blueberries!! Organic, local and no waste product like bags or boxes!

Reuse the dye colored water the kids use to dye Easter eggs to paint like you would watercolors. (Only if you don't put vinegar in the dye mixture).

Before each birthday and Christmas we go through our toys, clothes, etc and donate things we no longer need. It is great to recycle our old belongings, but even better to help out others. The kids really have gotten into the idea of sharing our things.

Reuse a sand box

If you have a sand box that they kids don't use anymore turn it into a garden. Remove the sand and fill with soil and plant what you want.

I am no longer buying ANYTHING I cant find used. For example our toster just broke, so I put an ad up on freecycle and someone had an exta they weren't using, so now we have a "new" toaster. That saved me money and I didn't have to get a new one forcing the stores to keep producing!

Instead of just tossing the junk mail I actually open it and look for 1 sided pages that I can reuse. I use them to print internet coupons or anything else I print that doesn't need to be clean on the other side.
Just be careful that you don't use paper that might have personal information on it.

My work ends up with plastic flip top boxes that we cannot recycle. I have the girl scout making trinket boxes of out them. As part of our "Use resourcely wisely" we only use the left over part of craft kits that alot of people would normally throw away. For example the edging around the part you punch out. I'll add pic when I find dd's box.
A coworker has passed this idea on to a family member who is a preschool teacher.

We use cloth shopping bags to reduce plastic consumption.

Recycle shirts you don't wear by using them as paint shirts for the kids or sleep shirts for them.
