Time to tackle your closet! This challenge includes:
clothes
shoes
jewelry
accessories
bags/purses
your dresser
non-clothes stuff that is being stored in your closet
off season clothes being stored elsewhere

Use this thread to post tips on decluttering your closet, and for keeping track of your progress, etc.

What is your strategy for paring down your clothes? Do you use the rule of 7s? Turn your hangers backwards for 6 months, then get rid of what you haven't worn?

Are you hanging on to clothes that don't fit, hoping you'll squeeze into them again, or "just in case" you grow into them again? What do you have a hard time parting with?

No don't make me go in there

I have a double closet in the guest room that is full of dress blouses.

I keep my jeans in the closet in our room

The hall closet has my dress pants in it.

And then I have a building out back that has my seasonal clothes in it.

The laundry room closet has my dresses in it.

So where do I start first?????

I cleaned out a garbage bag of clothes over the weekend. Some ill fitting jeans and other misc items. This is my tiny closet (plenty for me!). I also share a dresser with dh and use 3 drawers for jeans, shorts, workout clothes and undies.

dh has more clothes than I do..lol.

Latest Blog Entry: Before i was a mom...
Great Challenge!! (Scary... but great!!) I love the Rule of 7... turning your hangers around and see what you don't wear after 6 months. I swear my hubby wears the same 2 pants all week... despite the dozen he has in the closet!

off to attack the first closet... yikes!

Thanks Ruthie!

I don't have office clothes, just a few church outfits so I don't need as many clothes.

Ruthie, I don't know what to tell you, but start somewhere! I think the easiest thing to do is get rid of stuff you don't wear, is stained or torn, or fits badly, then see what's left. Good luck!!

skimommy, my hubby has more clothes than I do too.

I am with Ruthie. I know I mentioned in the previous post this is a priority to get to but it is a short month and that place is scary. I also have clothes in the closet down the hall and in the bonus room closet and the entry closet is full of coats. I started the closet work when I first retired... a big task that fell by the way.

I will try to set a goal to try on 20-30 items a day to see how they fit and line up baskets in the bathroom floor for Keep, Gift, yard sale. At the end of the day the keep will be put back in the closet using your 7 months suggestion. I think I will move the wedding dress and ball gowns to the guest room closet to free up some space.
