I am working on seriously decluttering our home, and have come to a stalling point? How many bath towels do you have in your home? What is a manageable amount?

In our home, we have 3 full baths. One is strictly an upstairs guest bath, one is the hall/kid's bath, and the other is the master. My dh and I were both grown adults with fully functioning households when we got married, so we had A LOT of towels. I have cut them down by 50% or so when we moved here, but I still feel we have too many. We have 8 bath towels for our master. There are probably about 15 in the kid's bath (those are primarily for guests when they stay over - our dd uses ours), and we have 2 upstairs. I know it's too many - we rarely have 17 people sleeping over at our house at once!

What do you think is a reasonable amount? I need encouragement!

Thanks!

I have 6 towels to rotate for myself & DH. 2 towels each for the girls = 4 smaller towels. Then I have about 4 extra towels for guests. Total: 14. I think I have about 1/2 dozen hand towels.

We have 6 for the master bath. I use two towels when I shower, one to put my hair up in and another to dry off the rest of me. Dh uses one towel, so that pretty much leaves us with two sets. One "in use" and the other for when the towels are in the dirty laundry.

We also don't wash our towels every time we use them. I usually take them down every three days or so.

We have one spare bathroom and there are probably 8-10 towels in there. We bathe dd in that bathroom and we do actually have the need for that many towels at holidays when we have a herd of family members staying with us.

-worried- Oh my I never realized just how bad I was. I read your 2 post and thought oh that is all you have. I have a whole closet full of bath towels. About 8-10 for "company" we have never had company overnight in 10 years but you just never know right. And our everyday towel shelf has at least 30-35 towels on it for us to use. Now the worst part is there is only 3 of us and I do a load of towels about every 3 days. I think we only get to the back ones when we go to week long horse shows. I just never thought about the number before.

I think I will try and weed out 7-10 this weekend to get that cabinet down.

We have 4 large bath towels (one each) and 2 guest towels for a total of 6 towels.

We also have 4 beach towels (one each) so I guess that makes it 10 all together with guest towels and beach towels.

Oh my. I so need to delutter my towels. When we got married (five years ago), everyone gave us towels. Now I have a closet full of towels and two bins in the basement full of brand new towels. This thread has inspired me to weed through them this weekend. Thank you, thank you for the inspiration! (FYI - Around here, animal shelters really appreciate donations of old, but clean, towels for their animal cages...just thought that I'd pass that along!)

Thanks for the reminder! Vets also appreciate worn but clean towels as well as blankets, sheets, etc.
