Somewhere around 2500. I'm not sure of exact figure.
I have designed our dream house that we wish to build one day and it's over 5,000 sq feet. It's gorgous and basically a small modern day castle. Now of course by the time we have the money to build it the kids will be grown and we won't need all those rooms, teaching room, playroom, etc. But a girl can dream!

Ours is just under 2000 sq. ft. It is over 100 years old, and has 4 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. It also has an unfinished basement with a lot of storage.

I think our house is about 1500 square feet (3 levels) - 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms. Someone mentioned the importance of layout - I really think that's an issue with us as we have some space limitations that we shouldn't really have in a house this size (or maybe it's just us? ). We have two kids right now but plan to eventually have a third and possibly a fourth. Right now the house we have meets our needs (which is good since we can't afford anything bigger in this area at the present time), but ideally we will eventually be able to buy a 4 bedroom single family home (we're in a duplex now) or at least a slightly larger 3 bedroom.

Ours is one of those old houses....no wrap-around, though. I love them, too. <heavy sigh> Anyway, we have 4600 square finished above ground, 1500 partially finished in the basement, and 1000 partially finished on the 3rd level.
We bought it because of our large family gatherings for holidays and birthdays, and because we paid the same for this as we were going to for one that was 2000 sq ft. Just we had a lot of work to do on this one.
I love it. With 3 kids we have plenty of room for everyone to spread out if we want to.

Wow, you guys have big homes! Ours is 2280 sf and that is big for here. In Florida, we have no basements so it is all on one floor. Sometimes it is too big and sometimes not big enough. But, we like it.

That's a good-sized house, Claire. Especially in Florida. My brother lives in Parrish, just outside of Bradenton, and I think that most of those houses are much smaller.
That is really the size we were planning on buying, too. We just lucked out with this one.
Jennifer, our house payment isn't any worse than most in our area. We bought our house for, don't throw things at me, $120,000. Not bad, I don't think, considering that the houses that had about 2000 sqft were going for the same or more.

[quote=christine525]I think I beat all of you--there's 5 of us in a one bedroom condo--less than 800 sq feet. ]
I can understand, my husband and I married a year ago and began to rent around a 750sq. 1 bed 1bath condo, even though it has alot of new design perks, it is the right size for us but when one will be on the way I can only imagine, you INSPIRE me to look on the postive side of it.

Our house is 2600 square feet...fairly large for our area of Southern California. The best part about our house is that it has such a functional layout that it actually seems bigger than it is...and it has tons (I mean TONS) of storage space.
