We went 8 years of married life without watching TV but I really missed it.

My dh is a bit TV snob . The only thing he ever watches is our Sunday night run of Extreme Home Makeover and he only does that because it's family time. He'd rather read a book. I really need the distraction when is gone all week - He is gone from Monday to Thursdays every week and home Thursdays - Sunday.

Dh tapes a few things that he watches every now and then- Survivor Man? That's one thing he likes. Also, his college football team. He watches late at night when the kids are asleep- maybe thirty minutes here and there.

The kids watch only 30 minute videos, like Bob the Builder or Busytown... if I can get them to watch that. Most of the time they are more interested in seeing what I am doing, or they want me to sit with them and read books while the show is playing, which I don't like, so I make them pick either the show or books. DS is more likely to sit and watch all thirty minutes, but dd has never had much interest. They don't watch any "kid's TV", like Dora or Disney. Those cartoons scare ds- there is always a natural disaster or some scary situation that the characters have to face, and that really bothers him. Some days I could really use a 30 minute break- and then, of course, they don't want to watch a video.

I haven't watched anything since the Terri Irwin interview, so it's been over a year since I watched anything much. I don't miss it. Well, I do still like the HGTV shows, but I find I just don't ever turn the TV on. Watching the news only scares me- I would always catch the part about the serial raper or convicted murderer last seen in my vicinity, or the abused child, or the family that died in the fire. I can get all that in the newspaper.

I don't know- I just don't have the patience for TV that I used to. PLus, HGTV only makes me want granite counter tops...

We have a 2 hour rule at our house, however my brother uses his time for the playstation and all I watch is the news. My fiancé basically "saves" his time in the week as all he wants to watch is his rugby or wrestling which is normally on during the weekends on a Saturday. We do however have a video contract at our local video store and sometimes go get a movie to watch on a weekend when we have nothing planned for an evening.

No tv is watched during the day as it is a pet hate of mine to see how much time people waste in front of it flipping through channels watching programmes they would not really want to watch normally.

Once my baby is born - I suppose im going to have to re figure out the 2 hour tv watching rule, but I honestly dont want my child watching tv all day instead of playing outside or something.

Only watch grey's anatomy! lol No, but in reality the best way to cut down is to pick the shows you really like and only watch them. I got to watching the shows that came on before the show I liked just because they were on. So now I just watch what I like and cut out all the junk. We don't have cable right now but are likely to get it soon for dh. I don't watch a lot of tv so it doesn't bother me and since dh is gone a lot I never worried about it.

This is a hard one for me, but I like the background noise. However, since being home more, it does start to wear on me. I am trying to plan what I'll watch, and then go and TURN IT OFF after the program.
I wish you luck on this one!

I'm new to mommysavers but had to join just to share our experience with getting rid of the TV altogether. We live in Germany and had cable for years but when looking at a future single-income budget while I was pregnant, we decided to cancel it. then the government got rid of old-school antenna broadcasts right after the World Cup. So we couldn't even watch the news anymore.

Since then, we have figured out that all we really want a TV for is to watch DVDs (I LOVE movies!!) and the news. However, the news is broadcast via streaming video online, and movies can also be watched on the computer.

We moved in December and haven't bothered to unpack the TV or DVD player at all. Our 4 month old son certainly keeps us busy and entertained enough for now. Eventually we might decide we'd like the TV again, but we love living without it for now. Besides, it's a decorating eyesore and we can't think of anywhere in the house that we actually would want it on display.
