His name is Peter Walsh. The show was o.K. I felt bad for the first couple. It was so cluttered, it would be hard to know where to begin. I am such a neat freak, I can't stand the laundry hamper to have clothes in it, or the sink to have one glass in it.

Peter Walsh: How to Organize Just About Everything.

Wow, I was really moved by the show. It's amazing how clutter can effect every area of your life. This Mom was trying so hard to be a good Mom, buying kids clothes every week, buying tons of toys and yet the kids were so unhappy they couldn't even invite their friends over.

I like the technique he used with the young teens in the other family. He told them they could sell in a yard sale whatever they didn't need anymore. That sure what motivating! I could even see my 8 year old being really motivated by that one!

I think both families really 'got it'. 'It' being that stuff doesn't bring happiness. They would have a better family life with less stuff. Less shopping, less laundry, less stuff to clean, less stuff to put away. The first family even confessed to being in financial ruin. If she would just stop bringing in more stuff, her life would be so much better on so many levels. I'm inspired.

Before I was married, I lived like this! I had to clear a path to the bed with all the clothes and stuff on the floor. I have been there. I am never going back. Ever. My life is so much better the way it is now. My kids wear nice clothes but they don't have much of it. I have to do laundry twice a week so they have clothes to last the week but my laundry is in small manageable piles.

I'm rambling .... it just really got me thinking about how I could be living now. There but for the grace of God (and the flylady) go I!

Okay, the only thing that dissappointed me was the first family admitted they were in financial trouble. I would think that all that extra "stuff" they had, they should have had a big rummage sale and whatever profits they made off the rummage sale, they could have paid toward their debt. Those piles of kids clothing and toys and excess furniture would have brought in a good amount of money!!

Does anyone own Tivo and how do you like it? Would it be great for the busy parents to have this equipment and how much does it cost? We do have the combo of DVD & VHS for our tv and have see the ad about Tivo some time ago. I would like to get some feedback(s) about Tivo.

Thanks for the Author/Title..

Kathryn, I so agree with you.. I used to be pretty cluttery too.. mind you, NOWHERE near as bad as the family they profiled today.. lol! But I've been 'nesting' I supposed and almost have my entire place decluttered and organized!! Just a few more hot spots to go and I am *DONE*! I'm due in early May, so this is a huge relief to me, as we don't have much living space, and by adding another baby to the mix we needed our space back!

Last month I went through all of our clothes, and honestly donated more than 20 garbage bags to charity.. *blush* But now.. I feel *FREE*!! I do 2 loads of laundry every 3 days, and am completely caught up..

Anyways.. going to hunt down that book, I bet it's a good read!

Ok, please nobody get offended, but I actually saw this show. I usually miss Oprah.

Anyways, he said 2/3 of Americans live like this! How many of you live that way? Really? I will admit to having hotspots, but nothing, absolutely NOTHING, like those people. I just have one area that I go through once or twice a month that is cluttered and it is about 1 foot by 3 feet in my bedroom. That's IT! And I am not, by far, a neat freak! I can't imagine having all clutter! I would definitely be overwhelmed and, yes, it would be affecting every aspect of my life. I have noticed that when my house is really, really out of order, those are my trigger times for my food addiction.

Oh, and I agree, Countrymouse. At least on Clean Sweep they get to make some money and have a garage sale. With that much stuff, it would so be worth it!

I've had Tivo since last June. I don't remember the exact amount I spent. I think it was around $250 for the box and a year's worth of service. I would definitely recommend getting the two tuner box. I think you will probably want more than an 80 hour box as well. I think I have 160 hours on my box and I'm always getting close to running out of space. Tivo is great! I use it everyday and absolutely love it. You can set it up to record a whole season of whatever shows you like. You can create a wishlist for particular movies or stars so that whenever those shows come on it automatically records it for you. Let me know if you want to know more.

Yup.. that's a pretty high figure if you ask me... insane! I have a few 'hot spots' where clutter accumulates.. but nothing like that.. I would go insane.. didn't even look sanitary enough to live in.. kwim? Yuck. :hurl: I felt so bad for their kids too.. my kids LOVE having clean rooms.. they may complain about having to clean them (help), but in the end, they love being clean and organized.. gives them, and me, a small sense of accomplishment.

Okay I didn't see the show but I've seen Clean Sweep and I have to say I also think that 2/3 seems high but you never know. My MIL could rival any house I've seen on that show. Its really quite ridiculous.
