I MISSED IT! I just want to scream!!!!!

I had my DVR (just like Tivo) set up to record it. I use to record every Oprah and just watch the ones I was interested in but recently I took her off because I wasn't ever watching them. I saw the post about this episode on here a couple days ago so I went home and set the DVR to record it. All set ... yippee, excited about it etc.

WELL My mom watches dd on Wednesday and they were doing something w/ the tv and messed it up. They don't even know what they did and when I got home from work the tv wouldn't even work. My dh fixed it pretty quickly and it never accured to me that Oprah didn't record. Last night when dd went to bed, I sat down to watch and it wasn't there!!! OMG. I was soooo looking forwad to seeing it. I hate to admit I live in a cluttered house. (not dirty - we clean a lot - but definitely cluttered). We have a small house so it seems like things get out of sorts pretty quickly and easily. We literally declutter once a week. So since New Years I've been on a total GET RID of stuff kick. So far I've decluttered and donated things from: My closet, my dreseser drawers, our coat closet, dd's closet and dresser, her toys that are in bins in the living room, her book shelf, our bathroom cabinet. Next I'm working on the garage, then her toy box, then the large linen closet and kitchen cabinets. I've been really good and giving things away that I really want to keep but just don't have the room for. I am trying very hard to simplify our life. So it really upset me that I missed this show.

Can anyone let myself and britx18 know any good points of how and what they did on the show. I can't believe my DVR didnt record!!! I do need help with learning to "organize" a small space better and key points of keep clutter at bay!

I really enjoyed the show! WOW.. the family they featured was in pretty bad shape! Get this, the lady worked at the Container Store, too!

Here's the info I got from the Oprah web site
This Is the Year to Declutter Your Life

Is clutter taking over your home? Peter Walsh has 10 easy strategies to help you reclaim your space!

HOW TO KEEP YOUR HOUSE CLUTTER-FREE
  1. Tackle messes one room at a time. (Very true... tackle one space at a time!)
  2. When you buy something new, practice the "in-out rule:" For every one new item, get rid of an old one. ( I really like this idea... especially since I love to shop the sales...I do this with shoes, but no so much with clothing.)
  3. Create intimacy in the master bedroom. Remember that improvements in one room can spread to the rest of the house. (This is so true! Happiness in the bedroom creates happiness in the rest of the home)
  4. Make cleaning up fun for your kids.
  5. Create a vision for the room you're cleaning. (I really like this idea... what do what the space to accomplish? Then, ask yourself, are you keeping things to add to or that take away from what you really want in the room)
  6. Teach your kids how to sort.
  7. Use a hanger system to determine which clothes you wear most.
  8. Ask yourself if you really need something. If you hesitate, you don't.
  9. Establish a "magic triangle" in your kitchen between the stove, refrigerator and the sink. Keep the items you use most in that area.
  10. Identify useful utensils with the cardboard box test.
theses are also good resources

more organizing tips!!

2/3's? That's a lot of people. I know I'm messy, but I don't have things on the floor. I have stuff (mostly paperwork) on desks. I feel sorry for those people. I know I have work to do, but at least I have my house spotless when company comes over.

Yes! This is the one area that really struck me as well. I have too much clutter in our Master Bedroom. Peter Walsh said the rooms should be a sanctuary. Ours is not. We have a desk in there (no separate office in our house) that is piled high with kids crafts, homework, paid bills, things that need to be filed, photos. Even the tops of the dressers are piled with papers and things that need to be put away. Now I'm inspired to make that room a sanctuary and keep the kids stuff out of it.

For those of you who missed it, here is an Oprah link that describes the whole episode.

I truely don't have the time right now to declutter with working 2 jobs, but I did tape it if anyone wants to borrow it. It's on VHS tape.

I'm giving myself 1 year to get my scrapbooking done and house in order. I have so much crap. I'm trying to use up what I have, but could really do alot better. I'll blog later

Just finally got to watch the episode last night, I taped it. I can't even imagine living in a place so full of stuff. I LOVE Clean Sweep and the show NEAT also. I'm addicted. In fact I think I've become addicted to organizing, I organize everything, I love it. Of course sometimes I feel like I organize because I want to get out of actually cleaning! Like the bathrooms for instance, I clean them, just procrastinate and would rather organize something instead.
I feel so much freedom when my house is organized, I don't have that panicky feeling anymore when we're really busy, and I'm saying to myself ok well DD has dance tonight, I hope I can find her shoes and her leotard and DS has swimming or baseball, I sure hope I can find his stuff...because everything, absolutely everything has a specific place in my house, so I always know exactly where to find it, no more panicking.
It saves so much stress, time and money!
