I have a friend who told me today that to help her unclutter that she sets a timer for 1 minute (for small rooms like the bathroom, 2 minutes for larger rooms) and when it starts she grabs everything that is important and puts it in a tub. Everything that is left, she tosses in the trash. Has anyone ever tried this?

This is a really good idea, but I would just leave everything in the tub when I'm done b/c I have the tendency to start something and not finish it. I'll have to try this tonight b/c I have a lot of rooms to organize.

I've heard of setting a timer for 5 to 15 minute increments to sort of force yourself to focus on one area for that length of time.

If it works for her then great but I couldn't do it. Its good to not spend to much time decided to keep or toss something but it wouldn't work for me.

I would end up throwing away papers I needed, or putting everything in the tub and like the other ladies said end up just leaving everything in the tub. But i can straighten up my bathroom in 1 minute!

I do this! It is amazing how much you can get done in 10 or 15 minutes. I personally couldn't do it for just a minute, but to each her own!

i agree. keep in mind however, a bathroom isn't as big (usually) and so I could see it being easier.
