I have decided to hire a friend to help me declutter. I do plan on hiring a professional to help with an overall organizatonal plan. I need to get rid of stuff b4 I hire this person because she charges 50.00/hour!!!!! I need it, we need it. Both dh and myself have tried and just can't seem to make our vision come true. we are using our tax money to pay for it. I want to do as much b4 I hire the pro.
Now, my question to you is, how much should I pay friend? The person I had initially talked to would be able and willing. unfortunately I will have dd(3 yr old). I am hoping to do it during the day. I think I can realistically only do about 2 hrs at a time due to having dd home with us. I will shoot for three and possibly have projects set up ahead of time for friend to do without me or little help from me.
am I missing anything? any questions/help/comments are gratefully needed.

Good for you! Hope you get the organized home you want! No idea what to offer your friend, perhaps ask for her input? But I think you'd get a LOT more done without your 2 yr. old "helping".. Is there a friend/family member who would watch her for the day? You could get a LOT accomplished in one day with no kids in the way..

Ask your friend what she would like. I have to do this too. I am going to hire a teenager this summer to help with kids wile I focus on the organizing and purging this summer.
I would pay 10an hour myself at least.

I agree......wouldn't it be cheaper to hire someone to WATCH DD while you declutter? Just a suggestion......$5 an hour to babysit vs $50 an hour to declutter.

I would offer your friend ten an hour. So its work but lets be honest the two of you will be gabbing away and havent fun so how much work is it realy? If I was your friend I would help you for nothing.

I was thinking of offering less, $8, and giving her the option of taking what she wanted first, if it was sometimes I was going to sell/barter/donate. the problem being is we have kids same age so not sure how much she would really be getting. unfortunately I have looked into someone watching dd and it's just not possible right now. I could get my mom to watch but then she will be all in my business. she would want to help and that would not be help. I have about 2 hours a day without dd, but then I have to also drop off/pick up in that time frame. The neighbor I usually trade babysitting with has a newborn so she is pretty busy until she gets her new routine down. ohhhhhh, I just came up with another person who might be able to watch. she has a dd a tad older than mine. I will also check with my mom but have her watch dd at her home instead of mine. thanks and keep them coming.

Maybe you could offer to buy her a larger purchase she has been putting off...like a new grill, firepit, bedding set, large toy for her kids, new rug, nice purse, dinner out, etc. and it would be a one shot thing. Maybe somewhere in the $50-$150 range.

In exchange, she would help you until it is all done.

I also like the idea of letting her take anything she wants from the stuff you are getting rid of.

Why would you hire your friend to help you? Is it that you need two people to do it? Need another person to motivate you? Just curious what you're thinking...

Personally, for me, I'd rather find a sitter and declutter all on my own. I just can't see myself asking a friend to help me do something like that, nor can I see them accepting money for helping me. But that's me.

finding a sitter is harder than anything. this particular friend won't babysit b/c my dd is still in diapers. she actually was looking for a parttime job. This particular friend is very organized and I do need the help. Until recently I had all the clothes from newborn and my maternity stuff. I got rid of most of that but still keep finding stuff. I also haven't got rid of any baby toys since last dd was born 3 yrs ago. I have lots of storage and used it well. I want to expidite the process b/c within the next month I will be hiring a professional to come and design our basement and spare room. I want to have as much done b4 she comes b/c her fee is 50.00 per hour. I will be checking with another friend on tues about trading babysitting so maybe I can get more done. I only ask my mom to watch for emergencies or vry important things. I don't want her to feel obligated to watch dd, besides she only has one day off herself and she has to get her own stuff done that day.
