I found this weekend that when I put my kids to a cleaning challenge it actually worked. I was reading some of the decluter suggestions and I gave each child a grocery sack. They went through toys that were broken, misses pieces etc and boy they were proud in the end!

My 7 year old said that he felt like HE had made the decision's on what to keep and toss and wanted to keep his area clean.

I do this in spring and fall, but with normal toys that they sell at garage sale. they get the money, sort of. they each can spend 5 how ever they want. 10 with guidance. anything more than that depends on purchase. usually we save it for our state fair games and rides.

I get my kids to clean their rooms out, some we save for yard sale and some goes to the resale shop. We have a box that we put to small clothes in. I can also get them to dust and vacuum and sweep by turning on the timer to see how fast we can go. Then we get a treat like ice cream or a movie.
