about using coupons....stock piling bargains or being what they consider "over organized"??

My dh mother always makes snide comments about coupons and the fact I buy them off ebay....cracks about how many bottles of ketchup(or whatever)I have...and cracks about how it doesn't look like we "live"here.

My husband makes the money...I feel I am being responsible in getting the most out of it...I bargain shop and take excellent care of what we have.

Anyone else put up with this crap???

If my house is clean (which when we have company, most of the time it is) my MIL will say things like "I don't trust mothers who have a clean house. It means that they don't play with their children." Unfortunately for me, I'm married to one of her children who never washed a load of his own laundry until he was about 20!!! So I say that's not true and I'm teaching my kids the importance of having everything in its place!

I had a daycare parent that made that dont trust comment to an overly clean house!

My sil used to make fun of the way I was with coupons and stockpiling but the last few months she has been asking for advice!

same here! As for people saying they don't trust a mom who has a clean house. Did you know that Play Doh came out with a air freshener? It's play doh scented, you spray it before MIL comes over and it smells like you're been doing crafts.

They also have a perfume as well!! Nothing sexier than trying to turn your DH on with that one! I thought about getting one as a joke to see what he would say!

I think that with MIL it is Darned if you do and darned if you dont. If your house looked lived in, she would probably say you dont clean enough! I learned this one myself!

I used to get comments from some of DH's family like "I don't know why you mess with those coupons. They're more trouble than they are worth." "You don't save anything after you count your time." "You should just buy generic." "Nobody ever got rich clipping coupons." They would only say that when they would bring me the ones they were saving for me. Eventually, they quit saving them and I quit asking them to.

They didn't know about my other bargains, stockpiling, etc. They'd die if they knew how little I spent on their Christmas gifts ! Now, they don't even mention the coupons. I think they quit bringing me the coupons when we moved into our house. They probably rationalized that we didn't need them anymore.

But, my family thinks it is great. My mom gets a kick out of hearing all my bargains & finds. My sister-in-law says she wishes she had the patience to do it. She'll do some things for awhile, then give up - just isn't dedicated to the cause, I guess.

My SIL used to until she was out of work on maternity leave and her DH lost his job. All the "weird" things I do to save money all of a sudden became really interesting. The sad thing is once they were both back to work they resumed their money wasting ways - some people never learn.
