I have nothing on my island except a fruit bowl (I can't stand anything on my island). But on my counters I keep:

(by section)
~Coffee Pot
~Blender
~Juicer

~Utensil crock
~Basket with washcloths (white, folded neatly for wiping up baby)
~White ceramic gravy boat w/ladle (holding all the small condiments/tea bags etc.. that baby kept getting into in my drawer...)

~Toaster oven in corner
~Plant

~Small cactus
~can opener
~Biscotti jar (decorative)
~Miscellaneous basket because otherwise it looks bare in that spot

It sounds like a lot, but my kitchen is big and without those things, I swear it looks BARE!

I have about 8 feet total, my kitchen is small but designed very well. I would have to store the stuff I keep on mine outside the kitchen which would make it a total PITA so I leave it on the counter. DH says he is going to redo the space over the stove so that I can have an over the stove micro, and build me an extra cabinet to hold my appliances - but that might be a few years. Everything else I use every day at least once sofor now it has to stay this way.

This must be why I'm anal about having it almost empty! To this day I go to my parents' house and you can't see the counter or the island - totally crammed with stuff, stacked a foot high. It literally turns my stomach now. I almost see it as this sickness or something. (my mom's ways I mean)

I try to keep my counters really clean with minimum "stuff" , but I still have a fair amount on them:

Kitchen island/breakfast bar
Bill holder, kleenex, change jar, address book

Counters:
Coffee maker
basket that holds breakfast bars and muffins for DH to grab in the morning
Ceramic chef holding a chalkboard
candle
salt&pepper shakers
olive oil container
recipe box

Everything else I keep in the cabinets or pantry.

At the moment I cannot even find my island...I was at my SIL's yesterday, and they have almost nothing out. I am working on this, today is just a bad day!

I have the coffee pot, utensil crock (which I hope to eliminate), toaster, bread box, recipe box, cookie jar, and baby bottle drying rack and his formula. My kitchen is big, but lately I fell off the Flylady wagon and am trying to get my act together!
