is to get rid of three things a day. We don't have a ton of stuff, but we do have things we don't use. Along with this, I am still trying to weed out things I inheirited from my Mom, including things from my Grandma I'd left at my mom's house and never dealt with,

That's a good goal, and I think that even I can do that! Three isn't much, but it's something. My problem is I'm so overwhelmed, that I start one area, feel guilty for not starting another area and end up paralyzed. The NOTHING gets done. But three things? It's a start. My problem is that the things I need to get rid of are things that I can sell or donate. I need a "holding" area for them and just don't have that area!

desertmom, I'm in the SAME place ... it drives me crazy. I am completely paralyzed in my house right now. Not one room is neat or organized. Every room has piles and disorganization! I'm trying to get started, but like you said, I feel guilty about other areas. Our neighborhood is having a yard sale in a couple of weeks, and I am putting stuff in my garage, but I'm still overwhelmed!

But I think 3 things a day is a good goal! It's a start! In a week, we'd get rid of over 20 things! And in a month, that will make a HUGE difference!

So, let's go!

What about putting them in the trunk of your car?

My car is a CRV with a stroller and things for the park in back. DH's car won't hold it, plus w/the price of gas and his commute, it wouldn't be good to carry an extra load. The garage doesn't have space, either. We do have offsite storage, but we are trying to get rid of it, because it's just wayyyyyy too costly. That's another post.

But I LOVE your creative thinking! My other challenge, and one of the reasons we have storage is I have no place for Christmas things. It's too hot in 115+ degree in the summer - it melts glue, plastic on the wires, etc.

Right now we live with my mother because we are both disabled and I help her and she helps me with my kids and animals. The Three a day thng sounds like a wonderful thought for this house because there is just too much stuff here too. We also have a whole house worth in storage that we are paying $172.00 a month for. I would suggest you take those three things a day and put them somewhere in your house even if they are in the way put them there. When you have about 2 weeks worth of stuff take pictures of it and put it on a trade board. This way you can possible sell it and make a little extra money doing so. When those items sell get another stack of stuff. If you do not feel it is sell worthy or you just do not want to stack it donate it. Then you can still write it off on your taxes. Either way it is money!

That is a great goal! My DH and I are going through a bit of a house remodel as we finish the basement and turn the "office" into the baby's room. We also are still sorting through all our duplicate items that were brought into the marriage. Right now our entire garage is a holding area!! I'm thrilled to report that much of the big stuff will be gone at the beginning of next week. I didn't realize how much more than clothes the Vietnam Veterans of America will pick up until yesterday. I will have a whole pile for them on Monday : )

I don't get paralyzed by the amount of work that needs done -- I just make a list and work through it. My DH, however, talks everyday about how much stuff he still needs to do (which IS a lot) and then he watches TV all night!!! I think it is really hard for him to pick a place to start and is overwhelmed. I would give him one goal a day to help, but he definitely likes to make his own way (Aries). My parents come this weekend with my old baby bed, so hopefully he will get motivated to do a few things tonight : )
