My son brought me a bouquet of tulips from the grocery store. They were tired and the last of the bunch, but they came from his heart, and he knows I love roses and tulips. In fact, the tulips started leaning toward the sunlight, so they are fighting to be healthy! DH actually worked w/him and picked out a very nice card and a big chocolate bar. They didn't do what they wanted to ( a real gift and dinner out - we'll save that till next week ), but it was nice to be thought of.
Also, I talked to my grandmother, whom I hadn't talked to in a while. She's in an assisted living center and you could tell she was lonely - one aunt sees her about 3-4 times a week and had taken her out to dinner today. She, my aunt and my brother and his family live in Texas - she hadn't seen him in over a month - his daughter just had a baby a few months ago, and my grandmother really would like to see them.
Later on the phone w/my mom, I surprised her and had her hold on, called my long-lost brother (he doesn't call but maybe once or twice a year) and we had a three way conversation. His daughter and her baby happened to be there. Very nice talk w/all. At the end of the conversation, after I mentioned how Grandma would really like to see them and the baby, they all decided to pack up and go see Grandma tonight for Mothers Day. I was planning on calling her again tomorrow, as I'd forgotten to get her new address, so I will be able to see how it went! I so hope it perked her up. Perked up my mom, as she hadn't talked to my brother in a long time. It was nice; able to both give AND receive! Please pray w/me for my nephew - he's in Iraq and a bomb went off outside where he was "living" a couple of weeks ago. He is safe, but I will be praying for his continued safety.
