I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but....

in an effort to get rid of stuff that is just cluttering up and taking up space, I tackled our two upstairs bathrooms. I have TWO grocery bags full of expired medicines, creams, prescriptions, etc.... I had absolutely no idea this stuff was sooooo past their expiration dates. I am sure better house cleaners than me have no problem with this, but if you want to tackle something small that could be really benefical to your health, start in the bathrooms.

*is skeeeeeeeeered of the medicine drawer* when we childproofed for daycare, moved all meds and such into a plastic drawer to be stored up high,, so it's bigger and scarier even then a medicine cabinet!

Good one. Maybe I will look at ours today. If nothing else, i'm sure they need to be re-organized.

When I was married my husband at the time was in the AF. I was allowed to go to the military pharmacy, fill out a form and get one of any 15 or so OTC meds. The last year he was active duty I went every week and got one of everything on the list to stockpile. About 8 yrs later I finally cleaned out the cabinet, I threw out 2 shopping bags of expired meds and creams. Ever since then I watch it closely.

Some meds are fine past their expiration dates. I'm not sure how to find out which ones, but they don't go "bad", they just lose potency. I would think that meds like Tylenol, Advil, Gas-X, etc. would be fine, but creams might go rancid? Just a thought. I cleaned out our med cabinet not too long ago and found some bottles from the 90's. Those got thrown without a thought.

Also, be careful of how you dispose of meds. Animals and/or children could get into them. Maybe your pharmacy, doctor's office or hospital has a way to dispose of them correctly.
