My dryer broke a couple of weeks ago .I decided to hang ALL laundry inside ,as I don't have lines outside. I have been having much success so far, and came up with a good idea today for extra hanging space. I put up my ironing board and you can hang alot of items on a hanger from it all the way around it. I have pillows hanging and underwear and socks hanging from it right now. Anyone else have any cleaver ways to hang items???

Many times I'll hang by hangers from the shower curtain rod. Also in doorways, although then you have to duck every time you go through a doorway.
I've thought about adding another rod to our laundry room for this purpose.
I also use the clothes basket edges to hang socks all around the outsides of them.

I got an expandable drying rack from Target I think, it's awesome and really holds a lot of clothes. FIL installed a homemade drying rack in our laundry room with just a few hooks and some cables. Love it!

I use a drying rack I got at an auction. The rack is huge - 5 feet high, it's about 30yrs old but I got it for $5. I can dry a whole load of laundry in the house if I hang all the shirts on hangers and drape all the pants over my dining room chairs and use this rack. I have a portable clothes hanging rack to hang the shirts on. I bought it for a dollar at a yard sale and use it when we have company to hang all the extra coats.

My electric bill went down $80 a month by eliminating the dryer.

$80.00 a month?? That is a quite a savings and I also know that your clothes will look newer longer from not being dried in the dryer. I think I am going to have to buy myself a drying rack.

Thanks for all the info on hanging the laundry inside. Our HOA will not allow clothes lines outside, so I was trying to figure out how to not use our dryer. These are great suggestions. When you hang your clothes to dry, do you use a fabric softener in the wash, then?

This is great advice. I live next to a busy truck route and also have construction of new homes going on next door and I can't even open windows on that side of the house cuz my house will be filthy in no time, so I can NEVER hang clothes outside. This gives me ideas for using my space in the basement though.

I dont know about your state but in mine we have HOA's that dont allow outside lines, but you can do it anyways and they cant do a thing about it becuase The state law says its illegal to prohibit energy conservation. They just put those rules in the HOA to discourage clotheslines but they cants acctualy stop you.

I always hang up most of our laundry with the exception of towels, sheets and jeans. I really believe that colors stay brighter much longer when you don't put them in the dryer. I have 2 different drying racks. One to hang clothes on hangers and one that I can drap clothing on. If I need to lay something flat to dry, I put a towel on the top of the washer or dryer and then lay on the shirt there to dry,
