If I can find them:
- apples
- bananas (they really do taste better)
- grapes
- strawberries
- carrots
Other than that my organic purchases are pretty much hit-or-miss.

Spoodler - I have been using the same philosophy about the thicker skinned foods but I recently saw that bananas are on the list of top 10 foods that you should buy organic. I don't really get that, but I bought some organic bananas today and it was painful to put them in my cart at $1.19 a pound when the other bananas were right next to them at >39 a pound....

Well...I guess I will start buying bananas then as well. They are only 79 cents a pound at the grocery store near my house so that is really not that bad. Where do you get bison? I would really like to try it.

Spoodler - my Kroger and my Publix carries it. I am in Atlanta. It is in the meat case next to the Laura's Lean beef. It is vacuum sealed in 1 lb. packages (not by the butcher). Mine is $1 cheaper at Kroger than it is at Publix for some reason. I can get ground bison, bison steaks, and even bison hot dogs! I think you are in NC and we don't have any Harris Teeters here anymore, but there is one where my dad lives and they sell it. If you can't find it, just ask the butcher and I bet he can order it if you are in a decent size city.

Oh, I forgot about Envirokidz! My kids love Gorilla Munch. And, the nice thing is that it's not overly pricey. I like the taste, too.

maggie, I'm not sure if any stores around you carry Organic Valley but they do have a tube of ground turkey that is frozen: Organic Valley I was just on their site looking for something and came across it, thought it might help with the pic of the product too.

Does anyone know why so many of the organic foods, like the granola bars or some cereals use peanut and almond flour? I really have to read labels, especially on the organic foods because of nut allergies with my ds. I didn't even know there was almond or peanut flour or even walnut flour until I started reading these labels.

Hi! I am new to the site and this subject has recently become something we are constantly thinking about in our house. We just recently (about a month ago) started buying organic milk, I think it tastes better. I have a 3 year old and a 14 year old. Wish I had started sooner, but better late than never. My mother gives me a hard time about paying so much for milk, but I think it is worth it. I keep reading bad things about the hormones in regular milk and it scares me.
I try to buy Cascadian Farms organic frozen veggies and their cereal is really good too. Haven't bought much organic produce yet, the sticker shock is amazing! We do go to the farmer's market in our area and try to buy as much local produce there as we can. We would like to do a CSA (community supported agriculture) but haven't yet, we are looking into it. We have also tried Annie's mac & cheese and it was quite good.
Haven't tried the bison yet. We only use ground turkey, I switched to it several years ago b/c of the mad cow issue. There is a place here that sells bison, I will have to look into it. Thanks for all the great advice and keep it coming!

Well, pretty much anything I purchase for my son is organic. I buy allot of the "O" brand from Vons. I always buy my eggs and milk Organic. My DH read a article that Bananas and coffee should always be Organic ( whoda thought ) I try to purchase as many fruits and veggies as possible in Organic but sometimes I just simply can't afford it. I will purchase my son's food first and then depending on my budget that week will then decide to buy as many Organics as I can for DH and I. I also buy Laura's lean beef or naturewell beef, as they are all natural. Chicken is always Foster Farms. The more organics we buy the more affordable they will become.
Isn't it sick how they make junk food so much more affordable?

I love Trader Joe's but unfortunately we live 1 1/2 hours from the nearest one. We support our local farmer's market in the summer and they even have free range chickens and other meat products that have been raised without hormones.
