I definitely say try dish soap or shampoo. There is also a cleaning solution called Orange miracle and its great but I have no idea where you can buy it. My grandma always had it.

We use Goo-Gone on almost every stain, but what I have found works best no matter what I'm using is scrubbing the stain with a toothbrush on fabrics that can withstand it. I can put just liquid detergent on a stain and rub it in with my fingers...and then scrub the front AND back of the stain with the toothbrush and it works better than just rubbing it in with my fingers.

Right now, I'm staring at a laundry basket full of nice clothes ruined by a red-orange crayon tossed in the dryer because dd put it in with the load of clothes....light colors at that. blessed_with_6 suggested something called Carbona that takes out ink and crayon, I just dread having to go through and spot treat everything...because there are LOTS of spots!!

It may take awhile, but the Carbona Stain Devils work really really well! I had a candle melt in my car in the hot sun a couple summers ago and thought I'd ruined a shirt it happened to be laying on, but the Stain Devil took it all out even after it was washed and dried a couple times! They are really specialized for all kinds of different stains.
