Life gets too hectic sometimes! Are you going to try it again today on a different errand?

I started only using cloth bags about a month ago, and since then, can count on one hand how many times I've had to take a plastic one. I keep them in the car right at my DS's feet, so I'll remember to take them.
They are SO MUCH BETTER!! They fit more, don't tear, easier on your fingers when they are heavy. I've taken them everywhere from retail, groceries, farmer's market, etc. etc. and no one has ever questioned them.

ok I took my canvas bag into the grocery store for the first time today. I only have one, but I also asked them not to bag my milk and the giant tub of spinach I bought. So that alone saved four bags, plus she put way more in each bag than they normally do!

If I am ever buying just a couple items I put it in my purse. Also I keep a grocery bag in my diaper bag, so I always have one to use at the farmer's market when i forget.

I'm from Ireland but live in Texas now.
In Ireland we have to use cloth bags because if you don't they will charge you 15 cents for a regular plastic sack. This has been a wonderful way to prevent waste. They also have mandatory recycling and charge per trash can, so you really have to reuse and recycle to keep costs down.
It's a pity our government wouldn't do this! We live in such a wasteful society. For me personally, I have to drive once a week to our recycling facility to bring paper and plastics. They informed me that they do not recycle glass, which actually takes a lot more time to break down on a landfill.
By merely recycling paper and plastics I have cut my trash in more than half and that's just a family of 2 adults and 2 young children. Imagine what it would be like for a large family?
Imagine how much less pollutants would be out there for our great-grandchildren in years to come if we just practised responsibility for mother earth today!

On the times that I have brought my cloth bags, I will use them for canned foods, first. If there is enough room for other things, then I'll put in more. The nice things about cloth bags is that they don't tear with the weight. It's so nice. I do have to admit, I need to bring cloth bags on a regular basis. There is one store I shop at that I am actually embarrassed to have to use a plastic or paper bag at, since most of their customers use cloth. I'll have to put them in the car when DH gets home, so I won't forget to use them.

I was inspired so I ordered some cloth bags, after looking at the stores locally and finding nothing. I went to the grocery store last night and came home with at least 15! plastic bags!! Can't wait to see how my first trip goes with the new bags and how much I can fit in 6 of them!

I have only done this a couple of times but I am so sick of the number of plastic bags that I have at my house so I need to do it more. In fact I just put them in the car earlier tonight. I know that I got some strange looks at Walmart but it is ok. I'm always mad when I forgot them for Aldi's. They have nice ones at Wegmans that I think I am going to buy a couple of next time I go there.

I totally agree with osra! I wish recycling was more available where I live.

I also use a cloth bag at the library. The lady always looks at me funny when I say I have a bag.. But that's ok with me.
