My sil bought my kids a $5 slip and slide this weekend. They have been on it almost all waking hours. They LOVE it. Cheap, cheap, cheap! LOL

Other than that....we do a shaded park, have a free small water play park about 30 minutes away, go to the library, take turns having playdates with other friends, have a small wading pool, and enjoy reading, playing with playdough, doing oragami, etc. on the super hot afternoons!

We bought a house with a fire pit. Never something that I would have installed on my own in a million years -- and yet we use that silly thing all the time! We all love it! And after this weekend I suspect we'll be staying at home and using that fire pit a lot. Things are just too expensive to go out every weekend! Not to mention we're all beat this morning!

Never underestimate what kids can do with sidewalk chalk- that was always my favorite growing up

We go to the beach, have picnics, go for walks by the lake, go to the playgrounds near here, go to the fountains and let the kids get good and wet. There are a lot of nice free things to do here in the summer. My kids also like sidewalk chalk. And just about every day we have some kids over to our house to play with. The kids even like to wash our cars, lol, so I let them do that on hot days. Oh yeah, almost forgot playing in the sprinkler! We have a farmers market within walking distance of our house too, with a playground right by it. There are so many things, I just keep thinking of them!

Go to the library. Our offers great summer reading programs, free movies and even parties with magic shows.

Go to those free movies! Many theaters have free kid days. My city also offers 'Movies in the Park' complete with crafts and marshmallow roasting. And it's free!

Pick fruit. This summer I plan on taking the girls to pick blueberries, peaches and maybe even lavender. It's not free but they love it and we bring home food!
