I should have saved some of mine for dusting too...didn't think of that.

I can't imagine not ever having mismatched socks. With four kids who take their socks off in the living room, in the van, on the trampoline, in the bathroom, etc., etc., etc....we lose lots of socks no matter how often I say, "Don't take your socks off there...don't leave your socks there....the dogs are gonna get your socks if you leave them there...why are there socks in the van???....."

Great idea! I just had Pergo put in my kitchen and foyer and I didn't like the way the swiffer cleaned my floors. It left streaks. I was looking for a way to clean them and not buy anymore swiffer cloths. I will give this a try!!

As well as for dusting, I've used them as protectors for storing breakable Christmas ornaments and other fragile storage. I've heard that if stuffed with filling, old socks can be sewn together to make a batting for a quilt, or to make a dog/cat bed. They can also be stuffed with cat nip for cat toys, and if you cut them into loops you can make loom rugs or potholders out of them. You may not want "old sock" rugs/potholders in your house, but these might would be nice for putting in a cabin, camper or kids playhouse, I supppose.

I can't be the only one who has never had missing socks!! Although my dog does have a sock fetish and if she sees one, either clean from the laundry basket or just taken off and they haven't made their way to the laundry she will take off with one or more! She'd chew them all day if we let her.

I still have a pile on my dresser from who knows when...If it is showing wear or has a hole though...to the dust pile it goes...Like Carol said they are GREAT for dusting the ceiling fans!!!

Maybe this post is a sign it's time for the pile on my dresser to go (there's only 6 or 7 there now, but I KNOW as soon as I toss them...all the mates will show up! Murphy's law. )

You are not the only one! I have maybe one a year... but it usually shows up- just caught in a sleeve or somthing. When I was growing up- I remember my mom had a huge bag of them! She said our house had "Borrowers". We could never find matching hairclips either. I love worn socks for dusting. They are the best!!!

What I do, is always buy the same kind of socks. So when I have an odd sock, I keep it forever. Eventually a sock will disappear or, more likely, wear out and I have a replacement handy. I think it saves on socks because I rarely ever have to replace them!
