Does anyone have one of these? They are based on the Japanese 'bento' box lunch box where there are about 6 different sections in the lunchbox, each one for a different food. Of course this makes a Waste Free lunch.

Even though we haven't used ours yet ds and I both LOVE it!! Ds is going to be packing a lunch 3x a week next school year and as he is used to a 'tapas' lunch sometimes (a little bit of this, a little bit of that' I didn't want to just stick him with a whole sandwich and send him off. Anyway he is thrilled to fill up the little 'cubbies' - he said, "one of those for tomatoes, one of those for hummus, one of those for olives" it was so cute!

I bought one for myself as well after I saw his since I'm always on the go and can envision myself taking off when he's in K, and 99% of the time I pack something to eat as well. Once you start eating well there is no way fast food can even compare with your own homemade lunch. They have a website and I encourage anyone interested to take a look. They are pricey, that is the downfall. But try as I might, I could just never emulate with my own hodge podge of small containers something so streamlined and all inclusive. I love the idea we won't be adding to landfills with lunch waste.

No, but I would get it if I didn't already have our Landsend lunch boxes with all our tupperware and rubbermaid containers that fit so perfectly inside. They look great!

Our school has a waste free lunch policy (no drinking boxes, no lunchables, no one time use sandwich bags, any package in has to be carried home).
See http://www.wastefreelunches.org/ for more info. About 5% of the parents were upset (you can't tell me what to do ~ kind of attitude) but 95% of the parents have been thrilled with the success of this project. It's really helped the kids understand the importance of reducing waste.

But if you do go with the waste free lunches, remember to label, label, label. I  labels. Before labels, I can not even tell you how many containers were lost. This year, we still have all the same ones. These are my favorites. They are dishwasher safe and have said on and look as good as the day we put them on after a whole year! Loveable Labels or Mabel's Lables
:D

I've seen the website for the Bento box lunch boxes and thought they looked great. DS is starting kindergarten this year and I've been looking for a lunchbox for him. I'm going to show this to him to see if he likes it. We haven't decided how many times a week he'll bring his lunch, but I know it's going to be at least 3-4 times a week. The school lunch is $3.00 a day!!! Unbelievable!

After looking at the laptop lunch website, it reminded me of the old Tupperware lunch boxes with all their compartments and containers. I had a red one when I was in elementary school and absolutely loved it. It's kind of the same idea. I wonder if Tupperware still makes those.

What a great idea!

PS I'm really impressed that a school made a "no waste" policy on lunch.

I looked into these before because my teen dd likes to take her lunch, but the original bento boxes were sort of expensive. Is there a cheaper alternative that does the same thing??

I've just ordered both my girls the Laptop Lunch System. The school lunches are so unhealthy!

Wow! A waste-free lunch. That would be hard to do! I'm impressed!

Ya know what they remind me of? Does anyone remember the Tupperware lunchboxes of the 1970s? It's the exact same idea--I'm surprised Tupperware didn't re-launch theirs.

I had a brown one & my best friend had an orange one--ya gotta love the color choices of the 1970s, huh?
