We use tap water with caution. We have a well, so it is not chlorinated on a daily basis. We had a difficult time getting it to pass health inspection when we moved in and when we had to put in a new well. For a while we were exclusively bottled water until the well passed inspection. Now we get the water tested every few months. The convenience factor of bottled water is great when you are out and about, however it kills my grocery budget!

My 2cents.

I have a water dispenser with a 5 gallon bottle on it like you see in doctor's offices and such. It was an initial investment, but my water stays cool and I like the taste of it much better then tap water. I get three bottles a month delivered and it costs about $18. I have insulated cups that hold 30oz each that I take with me and even carry around the house.
Cheaper then individual bottles...

Back to the Nalgene stuff: Are they leak proof? If they fall over (in a lunchbox or such) will it make a big watery mess?

we used to exclusively drink water bottles then i started hearing about kids not getting enough floride and most kids by the age of 2 having cavities. i even asked my peds dr and she recommended tap water. so we switched our does taste good (mil lives in a different city hers is gross and has white flecks in it so we bring our own) ou oldest son just had 1200 bucks put in to his mouth and the dentist did ask if he drank only bottled water i told him up until he was 4 1/2 (he is now 6) he recommended i limit bottle water. my middles son is 3 and been on tap water and his teeth look good. so i'm a believer in filling up our own bottles we put a cooler in the car that way we are less tempted to stop for botttled water along the way.

Bekki I'm glad there's someone out there that knows about reverse osmosis. Where did you get your filtration system and how much?

We bought it a few years ago at Sam's club for somewhere around $150.

I buy bottled water only when it is really on sale. A couple of months ago our one grocery store had buy 1-24pack and get TWO 24packs free! Well I also had a $2.00 off coupon so I ended up getting 72 bottles of water for 3.99. I couldn't not get that! But even when we do have bottled water, it is for when we are in the car or for DH to take to karate.

In the house we drink for the water in the door of the refrigerator. It tastes just like the bottled water to me. Now my Mom lives in St. Pete, FL and I swear the Gulf of Mexico tastes better than her tap water. They buy bottled water for everything including for making ice.
