I decided that I would try to figure it out, just as checks and balances type of thing:

Per Week:
Grocery shopping: try to keep it to 1.5 hours
Target/Walmart: 2-4 hours- yikes!
On-line: 1-2 hours looking and wishing
Other (craft store, clothing store, etc) : 2 hours

Add me up: I am spending up to 10 hours a week shopping still. Boo for me!

Are you buying or just window shopping?

Now that I am not shopping just to get deals, I have a wishlist of things I want to buy over the next few months and I browse a bit online to get an idea of what a good price will be. I really don't see anything wrong with that as long as I am not getting impulse purchases along the way.

I rarely go to Target, ours is almost 35 minutes away and if I really need something I just send hubby on his way home from work.

I would say about 3 hrs/week:

Grocery and drug store: 1.5 hrs/week
Going to the mall: about once a month for an afternoon so it equals about 1 hr/week
Walmart: Once a month about 1.5 hrs so it equals less than 30 min./week

Still when I look at it 3 hrs seems like alot of precious time.

2-4 hours in Target!? Holy Cow! L.OL!

It depends on the week...I grocery shop every week and I'm probably in and out within an hour. I don't go to Target or other stores on a weekly basis, but when I do go, I probably spend 30 minutes max. I'm not really a 'wanderer', I go in to get what I want and get out.

Maybe the Target estimate is high... I have been going there a lot to pick up medications for my dd, who, in addition to having food allergies, now has developed asthma. It seems like there is always a thirty minute wait at the pharmacy. Also, it is a place I can take the kids when we have to get out of the house for showings- it's air conditioned. Dh is only home on the weekends, so I can't send him out for things. I'm including travel time, but, yes- I am spending a lot of time there lately. If my life ever gets back to normal, I hope to cut that way down. We just do a lot of window shopping, but I am tired of that store!

Good question.

45 min the grocery store.
20 min online window shopping (but didn't up buying anything).
No other stores this week.

I've been trying to go grocery shopping every Monday and have been spending approximately 1 hour doing so. I do go to garage sales almost every Friday, if we count that as shopping, and I spend about 2 hours doing that. Other than that, I usually don't go into other stores unless I need to get milk, a prescription, something like that.

It usually takes me an hour and a half to do a big weekly grocery trip. Then I probably spend an hour total in places like Target or maybe Marshalls or the bookstore. And I probably spend an hour a week poking around online but hardly ever actually ordering anything. Most of that shopping is following links to good deals that I see on here!

A couple of times a year I spend a good chunk of time shopping because I live in a big city and there are amazing sales in January and July / August. I take full advantage!

I spend about 2 hours total shopping a week in 3 different grocery stores. One store is a Fred Meyer which also has clothes, housewares, hardware, toys, etc. Fred Meyer is the only place to buy clothes in my little town other than some boutiques down on the river (NOT) and there is no other place to buy children's clothes without driving an hour away.

I shop online only when I need something. I just ordered 3 pairs of pants (my daughter now wears 1/2 size pants) from Old Navy online yesterday and spent 20 minutes placing my (first) order with them. I would spend about 1-2 hours shopping online in a month including searching/window shopping.

I only buy online when it is something I can't get here and don't want to spend the gas money and time it takes to shop elsewhere unless it makes sense financially (a big item or a shopping list with many things I can't get here.)

I am in quite a remote place, so shopping isn't even an available temptation. It actually helps us to not spend money because there isn't that much stuff even available to buy.
