Would you want to start over? Let me explain...My best friend and her husband and DD have decided to pick up and move to another state, they haven't decided exactley where yet but state they will know when they get there. Anyways, I was over at her house helping her pack. They are only taking what they can fit in their truck and large tow behind camper trailer which they will be living in while they travel. They are shipping 15 medium boxes to their parents in the lower 48 and will pick them up when they get settled. It was so exciting watching her truly simplify her life. She had to evaluate every item in her home and what she realized was she had so much she didn't need. Her garage was full for a massive garage sale and what ever doesn't sell this week a local charity group is going to pick up. She is truly starting over. I would love to do this except the move part. I love where I live but, I would love to go through every room and be that brutal in getting rid of. I have done well simpifying but I find it energizing to have to go to that extreme. Not sure my DH would go for it. Am I just being crazy for wanting to do this????

No, you are not crazy! I would love to do this. How adventerous of them to just drive through towns until they found the one. I wish we could afford to do that. I'm at a point right now to where I wish I could just toss everything but furniture and cookware and clothes.

That's where I am, too! Hopefully, that will happen soon, as I start on a layoff (good thing - voluntary) this Friday.

But yes, I would love to just pick up and go...it's my DH that won't.

I would love to be able to do this! I wouldn't be able too go far, I love spending time with my family. I guess I have been doing something similar. Some days I walk into a room and think, "Do I really need that?" I put it out in the garage for next year's yard sale. What makes this easier is remembering that people will pay money for anything. If I am not using it, why not make a buck or two off of it?

This is where I am too! I find myself praying for a drastic move so that I'll be forced to simplify and rid my family of the junk we've collected. I'd move someplace else - heck, I'd move across the country or overseas. I'm totally impartial.

I sort of did that when I got divorced. I got rid of almost everything. It was such a cathartic experience, I did not feel free of him until it was done. 4 yrs later when (new) DH and I moved in together I got rid of more. by the time I arrived here everything I owned could fit in a small UHaul box truck. That was for myself and 2 kids.

No more clutter, or stuff taking up space collecting dust or conjuring memories I'd rather not recall.

Yes! I think there's something really liberating about the idea of starting over. I wouldn't want to move away from my community, but I think if we ever got a different house I'd be tempted to do the same thing. Sometimes it's just way too easy to keep storing the stuff and not dealing with it.

That is my goal to get rid of a TON!!! even some of the Christmas things!! When we get our basement done I plan on Going thru things better!! right now our furniature is blocking the storage things!!! The only thing that is stopping me from getting rid of things is my dh HE FREEKS out if I get rid of anything!! even things that have nothing to do with him!! I wanted to sell a music box that I have had since I was 5 it seems to be in my way all the time and soo dusty!! etc!! he thinks it wrong well I think its wrong to keep things that make me feel like I have more work that is not neccesary!!

I have thought of doing this.Work is so slow here and I don't know how long dh will be at his job.His boss promises there will always be work. But how much?As much as we are used to?Will it slow down?

Kinda scares me!

Down sizing would be great right now at this house with out moving though!:happy dance:

Yes, I've done it and I'm about to do it again soon.

When we moved here 8 years ago, everything we owned fit into a 15-ft rental van. I can count on two hands the pieces of furniture we brought with us - and I wouldn't use all my fingers. It is AMAZING how little we really need.

There are a few items I wish I had kept and a few things I wish I hadn't. It is a learning process.

Right now we're ruthlessly decluttering again to prepare to sell this house. I'm looking forward to it.

My axiom is, "The easiest item to move is a CHECK."
