My library recently made the switch from putting due date cards in the books to giving me a long printed receipt of what I checked out and when it is due (like a grocery store receipt).
At first I thought: hmm... do I like this system? And now I can say I LOVE IT because:

I keep the receipts, and as I return books I check them off the receipts and write down the return date beside each book. I can tell at a glance what I have returned and what I still have. In the past I have returned books only to have the library say I still had them. This has happened three times, and in each case I had returned the book, and it was found after the library did a "search" in its system (while I sweated out the thought of that $25 lost book fee at home). Now I can also check my receipts and say "oh, yes, I can even tell you which date I returned it." Yes, I like this new system!

Our library does that too, only you are way more organized about it than I am!!! I usually just throw the print out away or use it for a book mark.

At first I was just throwing the receipt away, too, and then I realized: hello! This is going to help me. No more panicked searches for books and wondering if I really returned an item or not. I check out a ton of books, and even though I can see my account on line and track them this way, with the receipt I have a return date and peace of mind.

I usually save the books I want online and they give me the receipt when I check out, so I have the online confirmation of what I checked out, plus the printed receipt. I love that they do that.

Our library does this too, and I love it! They also send an email 3 days before each book is due as a reminder. It really is helpful

Our library does this as well. I reserve my books online and then go pick them up. I get the online recepit and the checkot receipt. They also send out an email a few days ahead to let me know my books are due soon.

Hah, this is me! I usually return everything after just 1 week and I get an email if something is coming due in a few days though, so I'm not worried about missing anything.

My library also has self-checkout, which I love.

My library does this too. It's awesome! Great when tracking down ds' books and I can't remember what or how many he got.

My library also sends emails about 3 or 4 days before something is due. The email tells you exactly what is due and when. It's GREAT!
