I have worn contacts for about 18 years. I really do NOT like my glasses. I wear them at night when I take my contacts out. I remember when I first got my contacts, I had a hard time adjusting to them, but they were so worth it. Now, I can put them in and not have to think about them for the most part. I had to wear my glasses for a full week due to an infection in my eye and thought I was going to be in complete misery!! IT was AWFUL!!!! I think it all depends on what YOU are comfortable in. I wish you luck in deciding!!
Contacts was completely a visual thing for me. I did not like the look of me in glasses.

for me, they are simple to use. i prefer contacts because i don't like the way glasses look.
but as my eyes get worse, i find that i get tired more easily, and glasses are a quick fix to any sight issues i may have that need immediate attention, such as driving.
so basically i am going to have to get both--glasses and contacts *sigh*. it's well worth it though.

i have a not so bad astigmatism and just got my eyes checked my eye dr urged me to try the acuvue oasys with hydraclear contacts. he gave me one pair(i was skeptical) he warned me the first week might be drying to my eyes but after that they should feel good... oh my gosh i have been missing out my eyes used to get dry and these contacts i can even fall asleep in them and my eyes do not dry out.. next time you are due for an eye exam you might inquire about the new bread of contacts out there. something may work better for you now than the gas permiable. my eyes have not changed in over 7 years but i have huge pupils and they have told me as i get older it will help me...

I haven't tried contacts because I'm worried about the hassle and not seeing when I get up in the night. Also, when I thought I might a few years ago, there weren't many options for astigmatism and I am SO farsighted.
I've been wearing glasses since age 4 (!!) and I think they look cute on me. The flash reflection in photographs bothers me, and also I have large eyes and the far-sighted prescription only makes it more obvious. But other than that I love my glasses.

as far as getting up in the middle of the night what do you do now? Do you sleep in your glasses?
I keep my glasses on the nightstand so I can grab them if I need to get up in the middle of the night. And I put them on first thing in the morning before I get dressed and put my contacts in.

I have worn contact since I was 13. I now wear disposables. I find them even easier than perm contact lenses. Less cleaning and worrying about each lens. You wear them three weeks - possibly a month then chuck 'em. I wear my glasses in the morning and evenings and sometimes during the weekends . They are always by my bedside... ALWAYS.
I am very near-sighted and have some astigmatism as well though not much. My sister and husband 's prescriptions however, have much more astigmatism. I believe your degree of astigmatism might affect your contact lens wearing experience. My sister says her lenses always fell out. The doc told her astigmatism affects the shape of your eye making contacts not fit as well. My husband does not seem to have that problem.
As far as price, with dh's health insurance they cost $50 for a six months supply which I usually use for around a year.
I would suggest to anyone considering contacts to ask their doc for a trial pair. They are often free . This would give you a chance to give them a test run and see how they feel.

Currently, I wear glasses, but only b'c I can't wear contacts anymore. Years ago I was wearing only contacts. Then my eyes suddenly changed overnight it seemed. I went to put my contacts in and as I slipped the first one in, my eye clamped shut and it was burning and extremely painful. I had to physically pry my eye open and pluck the contact off my eyeball, and I was crying in pain the entire time. (It was the most painful thing I've ever endured next to labor.) Afterwards, I thought that maybe they were old or defective or something, so I tried a new pair. Same thing. Then (being the masochistic that I am) I tried a new pair that was rinsed off with an all-natural solution. Same thing. Finally I gave up. That was probably 6 or 7 years ago. Last year, when I went in for an eye exam and to get new glasses, the doctor asked if I wanted contacts and I told her about my issues with not being able to wear them. She said there were new ones that should be better on my eyes, and gave me a hypo-allergenic tear mimicking solution with a trial pair of contacts to try them out. The SAME thing happened. I don't know what's wrong with my eyes, but I just can't wear contacts It's a bummer for me. I used to LOVE them because I could go from school to gym to volleyball and then to work without having to keep track of glasses or worrying about them breaking. The only thing I didn't like about contacts was that, being near-sighted, they gave me a headache when I was reading or doing schoolwork. With glasses, I can take them off if I'm doing bills or reading, writing, etc. If I listed the pros and cons of glasses & contacts, contacts would win hands down (DS couldn't snap the arms off my contacts three times in a row!). If I could wear either of them, I'd pick contacts and I think they are definitely simpler than glasses. Put them in once a day, and you can forget about them. You rarely lose them, nor do they get all scratched up or risk getting run over by the car, left at the restaurant, or broken by a rambunctious toddler.

No matter how much I have my glasses adjusted, they always slide down my nose. I request the thinnest lenses possible, but they're still very thick because I have bad astigmatism. I like wearing contacts because I don't have to have that weight on my face that I have to keep fixing.
I wear gas perms -- I've been told by eye professionals that these harder lenses have actually prevented my sight from getting worse. Apparently, having that hard lens on your eye actually helps to hold its shape.
I don't know if wearing contacts makes my life simpler, but they sure do make me happier than I would be if I had to wear glasses all the time.

For me ... I wear my glasses sometimes but if I have to wear them all the time it starts affecting my self esteem. Probably sounds dumb but that is how it works. I also prefer my contact when I'm exercising or doing anything physical. But yes, they are a hassle. The best route to go is perfect eyesight!
