I tried this a few months ago but couldn't get through the transition phase to make it work. However now I only use shampo every other day and the ACV rinse on the other days. ACV is a natural highlighter and leaves my hair so smooth. There is many discussions about this on the long hair forum page. Many people have great success.

How long did you end up doing this? How long did your transition phase last? I'd be interested to read the long hair forum. Where is it? Can you post a link?

I am heading on week 2 of this. Towards the end of week 1, my hair started to look a little oily, even the same day I washed it, but the ends of my hair were still dry. I'm going to try adding a little honey to the ACV rinse for moisture. I just feel like, if I can get through this week, my hair will thank me for it and it will look so much better. Also, I have gone to washing my hair every other day, so that it doesn't get too dried out.

The Long Hair Community - Style instructions links
Forgive me if I didn't insert the link correctly. This is the long hair forum.
I gave up too soon. After 4 days my hair was so greasy I couldn't hold out any longer so I am not sure how long the transition would take. This site has a lot of good information if you have long hair (or short for that matter.) Hopefully you hold out longer than me and get to the no shampoo phase....they also talk a lot about CO (conditioner only) and no shampoo. You have to use a conditioner with no silicones for it to clean I believe. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or you can't find what you need on the forum.

An update:

I added about a tablespoon of honey to the vinegar rinse. I made sure the water I added was warm, so the honey would melt. I have to say that I am so happy with the results! I washed it yesterday and it still looks great today. Better than it has in a very long time. I didn't even have to use any styling products or silicone serum to make my hair not frizzy. It was smooth on it's own the last two days! :happy dance: :happy dance:

Oh, and it hasn't been greasy or had any flakes this week.

When I have a chance, I'm going to post a before and after picture of my hair. Just to give you an idea of the changes.

Well, this week things seem to be getting better. My scalp is not itchy and most of the flakes are completely gone...just one or two once in a while. I've been loving the vinegar with honey. It works great, but I've noticed my ends are just a tad bit dry, so last night I went ahead and used conditioner, instead of the vinegar/honey mix. I still "washed" with baking soda. I really do like this and will probably keep doing it, long term. I think I'll keep up with the following schedule:
Wash every other day with baking soda, do the vinegar/honey rinse after. Except, one day a week, I think I'm going to sub conditioner for the vinegar rinse, just to keep my ends from getting too dry. I know that if I were to tweak the amounts of bs, vinegar or honey, I would probably not have to use the conditioner, but until I figure out what works best, I'm going to keep with this schedule.

Has anyone else tried this yet? Let me know if you have and how it's working for you!

That's great! No I haven't tried it yet. How do you use the baking soda in the shower? Do you just measure out a tsp and take it in with you or what? Same question goes for the vinegar/honey rinse? What do you put it in? I would be in heaven, if I only had one or two flakes !!! If I scratch my head and fluff my hair....it looks like a snowstorm ;(!!!!! Gross!!

searching: I have a tub with a lid of bs in my bathroom with a spoon in it. I use the spoon to scoop it into a cup, which I set next to the tub. In the shower, I wet my hair, then put the bs in my hand. I take a little water and make a paste and rub it onto my scalp, but not the rest of my hair. The vinegar/honey, I have a jar with measuring marks on the side. I fill the vinegar to the 1/2 cup mark, get a tablespoon of honey and put it in there (leaving the spoon in the jar for a second), and pour in very warm water over the spoonful of honey, so it dissolves. I fill up the jar to the top and stir the honey in, and then bring the jar with me into the shower. I should probably not be using glass, so I'm looking for something else to put it in. (glass+shower=bad combo) I pour the mixture from the jar straight onto my hair and scalp. Some people say not to pour it onto your scalp, but I find that I like it best when I do. You should go ahead and give it a try. Transition is different for everyone and you may find that you don't even have a transition period. The worst that could happen is you decide it's not for you and you switch back to regular shampoo and conditioner. One thing I've seen recommended is to put a few drops of tea tree oil in with the vinegar mixture. It is known to help with flakes.
