I am reading my moms Family Circle Magazine September (I am the 2nd to read it before it goes to my grandma!) and they have a few tips on eco-friendly ousecleaning. If I am not allowed to post these- mods feel free to remove it!
1)Hang laundry for fresh smelling clothes, to prevent fading turn garments inside out)
2) No need to polish wood, dust with a dry lint free cloth. Polish once a year with butchers wax once or twice a year.
3) Remove stains from whites by dabbing spots with 1 part borax and six parts water.
4) Table salt is all you need to remove baked on food from the inside of the oven. Cover area with salt while oven is still warm. After it cools, scrape the food away and wipe with a damp sponge.
5) Do a no shoes indoor policy and only a damp mopping once a week with 1 gallon of water mixed with 1/8 cup liquid soap and 1/8 cup white vinegar.
6) Add 4 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart warm water for non toxic all purpose cleaner (can be used for countertops).
7) Remove indoor air pollutants without electric filters. Houseplants such as chrysanthemums, English Ivy, spider plants and Boston ferns naturally freshen the air.
8) Glass cleaner 3 tablespoons white vinegar and 1 gallon cool water. Avoid streaks by using newspaper!
9) Prevent mold and mildew in the bathroom by keeping a spray bottle filled with 1 cup water and 1 drop tea tree oil handy for the stains!
10) Disinfect and deodorize the toliet: sprinkle sides with baking soda, let sit for a few minutes, then drizzle with vinegar. Scrub with toliet brush and flush.
Not only are they earth friendly- they are cheap inexpensive ways to clean your home! Enjoy!
