This is an interesting one . . .
Task - For many people, the most cluttered area of our lives is our mind. This task teaches us how to clear our mind.
Take a paper and pencil and think about someone who's behavior makes you grumpy or angry. Fill in the blanks in this sentance "_______ should/ shouldn't _______ (input the behavior that upsets you). Don't worry if it's petty - it's bothering you.
Now, there are two ways to deal with it. First, you can look at the behavior and ask yourself "Is it true? Can I really know how others should behave?" The answer is probably no. The other way to think about it is to reverse your belief.
Here's an example from the book.
Primary belief. My husband should remember to take out the trash.
Secondary beliefs: My husband isn't supportive. He's trying to frustrate me. etc.
Reverse it. If I feel resentful, I should do less housework. Reversing the judgement points the finger back at you, where you are in charge, whereyou can do something about the situation.
Reality: Your husband doesn't take out the trash. That's reality. Accept it. You can want him to take out the trash. You can ask him to take out the trash, but don't become attached to the outcome and let it clutter your mind. He will or he won't.
I'm not sure about this, but I'm game to give it a try. I'll think of one and report back later.
