my dh and I don't watch too much tv so a couple of weeks ago we turned off our satellite dish. We just have an antenna now. We get all of the local channels as well as PBS. But I really dont' mind missing all the extra shows. If we turn the tv on at all now we have to be really bored. I don't think people would miss it as much as they think.

Seven years ago (before we had the kids) we lived one year without TV. Actually we had a television but could only watch videos on it. So we did rent movies on the weekends but that was it. We realized that we did not miss it so much. DH discovered he liked reading very much and we listened to music alot. We never got cable after that. Now we have an old fashion antenna so we only have 5 channels when we are lucky. Most of the time we only really have two or three channels. The kids mostly watch DVDs. I think TV is good if you watch the right shows. It is part of modern life and we should teach our kids to use it wisely.

TV is tricky... everyone has their own balancing act with it. I'm glad those who love it and truly enjoy it wouldn't even think of giving it up. You shouldn't give up the things that bring you happiness. For me, I can take it or leave it... mostly leave it. I'm more of a computer addict (which is a different time hog....)

I would love love love to be able to stop watching TV. I can feel my brain cells dying by watching all that garbage. But I am way too addicted I do try not to start watching any new show, though. But then they come up wth Army Wives and Side order of Life and here I go again....
