It's added to our garbage/water/sewer bill, and so we use it, for cans, paper and plastics, but they won't take glass! I love to recycle just to recycle and also save money on trash bags, but I know if we were in a place where we couldn't recycle, chances are, it wouldn't happen, I don't think DH is really that much interested in recycling. I'm always getting stuff out of the trash he's tossed in

Reading this makes me realize just how spoiled we are here. We have it (paid through our property taxes) and the pick-up is every week and they take just about anything recyclable.

If I had to drive someone, it would be a lot less motivating. I think I'd still do it but I'd collect a lot of stuff and maybe do a once a month or once every two week drop off. I'm proud of you ladies that don't have curb side recycling and still recycle.

No flaming please, but we don't recycle. I try to conserve, reuse, etc, but there is no recycling pickup for anywhere in a 60 mile radius, and we don't have the means to haul large containers in a huge vehicle once a month, not to mention storing it in the meantime.
I really wish we could be more green!

It never occurred to me that other people don't have curbside recycling. Ours takes paper, cardboard, cans, glass and plastic. The one thing they don't take is #5 plastic. We have so many Rx bottles, all #5 plastic. They have the recycle logo, but they don't take #5. You can't return it to the pharmacy. You can't take your own empty bottle to the pharmacy & ask them to refill the same Rx in the same bottle - they have to use a new bottle by law. I figure if I can collect over 50 bottles in under a year, can you imagine how many we go thru at nursing homes, hospitals, etc.? Why won't they take those? Or why can't we return them to a drop box at the pharmacy & have them send them out to whoever will recycle them? It's a pet peeve of mine.

We have it GOOD! The garbage company supplies a giant rolling cart, just like the one for garbage, and we can throw everything that can be recycled in it without sorting. They do the sorting for us. We have had curbside pickup for years and years but honestly I didn't do it as much when I had to sort and bag everything. Now, we just keep the recycling cart next to the garbage bin and use it all the time. I know the cost didn't go up when we go the recycling bin but I'm not sure if we pay extra for the recycling or if there is only one cost, whether you recycle or not.

I wish! Now that we live in an apartment with a patio by the kitchen, my hubby lets me keep it out there until I take it a few miles to the nearest center. they take everything, even grocery bags. They will give me money too, but they look at me weird (and sometimes ignore me!) when I want my CRV tax back on just a few items. So I have been saving up things with redemption values and just taking the paper/cardboard. I've even been picking aluminum cans up off the street.

Yes....It's been both a blessing and a curse around here though!! We recycle our cans on our own though. My diet pepsi addiction makes a nice little additional income!!

On the downside, since they started this, we get a lot of people going around digging in our recyclable-only trash cans. That drives me nuts. Something about people rifling in my garbage bothers me.....call me crazy!!

Unfortunately, we don't. I wish we did. We do still recycle though. Luckily, the dropoff is next to the library, so it makes it much easier to pack everything in the car. We live in a small town and I've thought about trying to start a campaign to get it curbside. Once you're used to recycling, it really makes you sick to see all of the recycleable things out for the trashl - you know?
