Ed Begley, Jr. is my "personal hero", and so I've been watching his show, "Living With Ed" Living with Ed - TV series on HGTV, on HGTV for the past two seasons, religiously. To me, he's not like most of the celebrities out there today who claim to be on the "environmental bandwagon" for publicity's sake, nor does he give off the impression that he's just "playing the part" to make a buck. He really IS environmentally acitve, and has been "living green" since the 70s. I watch his show because not only do I want to learn more about recycling, solar energy, and all that goes along with being more environmentally-friendly, but I watch it because he's personable, invested, honest, knowledgable, and most of all "believable".

And on the production page of the shows' website, Living with Ed - TV series on HGTV , here is what I found that the crew of the show thinks of Ed:

He does the following four things that lure you in and we can all learn from:

He never preaches about what he is doing. If he is asked, he will tell you exactly what he thinks and never pass judgment on those who are outside of his box of thinking.

He doesn’t expect everyone to live like him. It’s this little thing he does where he has his personal goals and you just naturally aspire to be like him. He makes it look so easy and he doesn’t ask anything of you.

He walks the walk 100%.

He is way ahead of the rest of the world. Ok, maybe the rest of the world has been told to take care of the planet over and over again, but he actually listens and cares about future generations. We all are obsessed with being more technologically advanced, but maybe Ed has it right with his one simple phrase: Live Simply…So Others Can Simply Live. Is it technology that is ahead or living simpler?

...These are all examples of why I love this show, and why I am so happy to see it being televised. Sure, Ed and Rachelle make a few bucks by doing the show...But Ed also has his own line of environmentally safe, bidegradable, cleaning products called “Begley’s Best" Environment Friendly Begleys Best Cleaners which he sometimes sells himself at local grocery stores. (All profits of which go straight to charity.)

So if you haven't checked out the show yet, you can find it on HGTV, now airing on Monday nights at 10:30PM Eastern time!! And you can find out more about the show on it's HGTV web page: Living With Ed - Environmentally-Responsible Living : Home & Garden Television

This thread is meant to be a place where we can discuss what new "green living" ideas we've learned from each weeks' show, or where we can post comments about it. I plan to update this thread each Tuesday, and I hope you'll join me with your thoughts on the show as well!!

Thanks!!

I have watched the past couple of shows. it really is a funny show even if you're not into going green. It is very informative yet down to earth. You're right, there is no preaching down to anybody, just good ideas. I loved the show with Bill Nye the science guy! Ed's wife and him are so great together.

Vioburn: I agree! I can't wait to discuss the weekly shows!!

Crazylady: I think you're right. The show IS often humorous!! I love the way Rachelle is always rolling her eyes behind his back!! It's what makes the show so down-to-earth...the way she always seems half-way "put off" with all of Ed's "projects". But in the end, they do make a great couple - and a great team on the show!!

I can hardly WAIT until Monday night!!!

I've been on the Living With Ed website half of the morning, reading through all of the old epsiodes and what it's all about. I think he's my new idol. Anyway, that stationary bike hooked up to the electricity is really cool.

Saw it, loved it! That's a pretty cool show. Moves pretty quickly, and talks about a ton of stuff. I love the recycled jeans insulation! One thing, as much as Rachelle liked the recycled bag clothing, I thought it was hideous! Seriously, who would really wear that? And I'm surprized at Ed. He, of all people, should know that you are only supposed to wear NATURAL fibers on your body! Tsk, tsk tsk, Ed!

I'm definitely taking note of that insulation and using it when we build our house.
