When buying Organic?

I really am interested in becoming much more organic with our food, but its simply sooo expensive. Any advice?

Do you have a Safeway near you? They have a store brand called O Organics. Priced around what other store brands are and most of what I've tried is really good.

A garden is a good way to go organic, but not if you have a brown thumb like I do. My family would be in trouble if we had to rely on what I grow!

Farmer's Markets are usually pretty good and have a lot of orgranic or local produce. If you can't buy organic, at least try to buy local. It produces less pollution since they don't have to drive far to get the food to you.

CSA farms are great, if you have one near you. You pay a membership fee in the spring and then get fresh, organic produce every week of the summer, and sometimes into the fall. I have a friend that is a member of one and ends up getting so much produce, she doesn't know what to do with it all. She cans most of it, but has put up so much food that she has to give the rest away.

Here is a list of things that you absolutely should always buy organic, because they have the most pesticide residue if you buy conventional.

peaches
apples
sweet bell peppers
celery
nectarines
strawberries
cherries
pears
imported grapes
spinach
lettuce
potatoes

And a list of foods that have the least pesticide residues (which should be ok to buy conventional):

onions
avocados
frozen sweet corn
pineapples
mango
asparagus
frozen sweet peas
kiwis
bananas
cabbage
broccoli
papayas

I hope this helps!
