Thanks for the posts before. I tried the recipe from Rosemary (with Fels Naptha). I found all the ingredients easily and I love it! Thanks. I was shocked at how little I needed. The clothes are clean and smell nice. YEAH!

Funny Story - the manager at the store said "what is the deal - you are the second woman today asking for these items!!" The word is spreading.

Thanks!

Heather!! That's fabulous! I am so happy to hear that you like it. I love the smell, the way it lasts forever and the fact that it's cheap and much better for my family and the environment!

I'm always concerned when someone tries something that I use b/c you really want them to like it and I'm so glad that you did! Did you put vinegar in the fabric softener container in your washer too?

So, what does it smell like? Can you compare it to a detergent on the market now?

I have all the ingrediants to make my own laundry detergent, but haven't yet. Took me a while to gather everything up though!! ( Found the Arm&Hammer washing soda in Illinois!!) Wish I'd bought more than 2 boxes now...

I've made laundry soap with Fels Naptha and it doesn't smell that great to me.. My clothes don't smell clean when they are done washing, just have a wet smell.

What all did you put into it? Maybe I forgot to add something to it.

Check out the other post re: Laundry detergent. From the top of my head it was

2 bars Fels Naptha (grated)
1 cup Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
1 cup Borax.

Now, I cannot tell you exactly what the "scent" is. I guess just clean. It is not overwhelming - just clean. I am just impressed with how little is needed. The first time I used 3 tbsp because I didn't trust it. Now I am down to just the 1 tbsp and it is doing a fine job (2 for bigger loads).

Best of luck and thanks again Rosemary!!! I would love any more of your recipes.

I bought the stuff today to make my own and I have a few questions -

- can you scent it with an essential oil if you want? If so, any idea how much?
- how do you go about grating the bar soap and what consistency do you want it to be once grated?

THANKS!!!
