Part of simple living for me means trying to be present in the moment- enjoying where you are, giving your full attention to whatever you are doing and whomever you are with.

Cell phones seem like a great idea- but I think they really can take us "away" from where we are at the moment. Case in point- you'd think my mom's phone was a hot line from the White House the way she carries it on her hip and answers it no matter what. Today we went out to a store, and she talked on the phone in the store and the whole drive home! Or she will be "helping" me with the kids and then wander off to talk on her phone, leaving the kids unattended. That's some great "help". My dh jokes that I'm going to have to talk to her via cell phone the next time we go out just to make sure I can get a word in.

Anyway- this whole thing has made me rethink how present I am in the present. I guess I am also easily distracted with lots on my mind. But I'm definitely putting my phone away!

I get easily distracted too. But my cellphone is not for conversations, just emergencies, and "hey, where are you and what is taking you so long?"
I think you should try your husbands suggestion the next time you are with her.
Glad my mom dosent have one. If she did, she would lose it.

I do not even own a cell phone anymore. I did not like the fact of people reaching me whenever they wanted. We are usually home most of the time anyway and if we do go away, people always know where we are going and the number in case of an emergency. I am free to enjoy myself when I go out with my family without being bothered. I don't see the point of owning a cell phone if it is never used or turned on. Also, we were trying to eliminate unneccessary bills and that was one we agreed on. Maybe someday we'll get down the road, but I definitely don't miss ours and it has been over a year!

I feel the same way. My cell phone is never even on, and I don't give the phone number out to anybody...heck...I don't even KNOW the phone number!
