Trying to live more simple makes me question every purchase. I need a new crock pot - is that totally needed in this kitchen? I think so but haven't gotten one yet. That got me to thinking what coudl I live without in this kitchen.

Coffee grinder? Probably.
Blender? I don't think so.
Coffee maker - NO!!!!!!

What do you think?

I could probably live without my coffee maker, and just make coffee with those Folgers (tea-type) bags...but I wouldn't be a very happy camper about it!!

And my electric can opener is valuable to me. Saves me alot of actual pain from having to open cans "by hand"...oh, dread!! (I have Fibromyalgia though, so it's either use that or pay for it later!)

What I COULD live without...let me see...my coffee grinder I suppose. Although I love fresh ground coffee like nobody's business!! My computer and my coffee...that's how I "spoil" myself. So, I would probably feel "deprived" without the grinder, , but I could handle it!!

Well I have never had an electric can opener and don't ever see myself buying one unless I end up getting really bad arthritis in my hands. I don't need a toaster oven. I'm trying to think of other ones off the top of my head, but I can't think of any right now. I'll try to think of more though.

My microwave. We didn't have one for several years and only got this one because they were tossing it out (nothing wrong with it) and I couldn't see throwing it away.

I could live without (most of these are my husbands idea of a good Christmas present):

vegetable steamer--I can use stove top
crockpot--I can use stove top or oven because I am home all day
griddle--I don't use it anyway, I use the stove top
indoor grill--we use the outdoor grill all year long
mixer--I can do it the old fashioned way with a wire wisk
iced tea maker--I can make sun tea or use the stove top
coffee maker--don't drink coffee, dh drinks coffee at work only
microwave--we went two weeks without and even though it seemed to be a pain at the time, we did just fine

I could not live without:

blender

Coffee grinder has been up in the cupboard for a few years, so I can obviously do without that. Don't have an electric can opener, so that's easy as well. I could get by w/o the waffle maker as we maybe only use it once a year. The food processor and kitchen aid mixer - I like them, I got them 2 years ago - but obviously I did fine for 41 years prior to that. The apple-peeler-corer I could give up because I only use it this time of year, and it only works for certain apples. If I'm using macintosh apples, it doesn't work - they are too soft. And guess what my favorite apple for sauce or pies are? Macs. So most of the time I'm peeling by hand anyway.
I could also get by without my wok. I also do not have an electric fry pan or anything like that, so that's an easy one too.

We do not really have that many gadgets. I pretty much only buy what I need.

I have never had: a coffee maker or grinder, vegetable steamer, indoor grill, electric can opener, apple peeler, electric fry pan, ice tea maker, or toaster oven.

Out of what I do have I could probably live without my blender (rarely used) and my large crockpot (usually use the smaller one)

I could never do without the microwave.

Oh, yeah we do not have a toaster either. Our microwave has a built in toaster.

I could do without my crockpot. I really don't use it enough.

I've gotten rid of: rice cooker, sandwich maker. We also got two quesadilla makers for our wedding which I returned.
