I really want to start using cloth diapers with my 2 month old son. However I need help! How do I get started? Which cloth diapers are the best? Are they worth the trouble? I believe that they are better for the environment, my budget, and most importantly my baby. I'm anxious to get started, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

YAY!! We use cloth and love it! It is definitely worth the trouble, though they really aren't any trouble. The best place for cd info is www.diaperswappers.com. Spend some time browsing around there and just ask if you have any questions. There are so many types of cloth diapers it can sometimes get overwhelming to a newbie. You'll find everyone there very helpful though. If you want to tell me your ideals of cloth diapers and perhaps a budget or price range I can recommend some. We use pocket diapers because they are so super easy to use and wash. Right now our favs are Fuzzi Bunz - THE Pocket Diaper -. The fleece is so soft against baby's skin and it really keeps their skin dry by wicking the wetness away to the insert. The fleece really doesn't stain like you would think either. Also, they are very durable and have a great resale value, which makes cloth diapering even more economical.

I have to go get dd off the bus or I'd type a lot more. Check out diaperswappers and/or pm me if you have any questions.

I've heard great things about the Fuzzi Bunz. Unfortunately, I never got into the cloth diapering with my kids, but I really wish I had. I still have one in diapers and I've been thinking hard about the Fuzzi Bunz for his last 6 months or so of diapers. Especially with the potty training phase.

I think it is way to complicated to do simple cloth diapering anymore. All you need is plain old cloth diapers, pins (no, my son never got stabbed!), and plastic pants. Very cheap, and they don't outgrow the diapers!!! I just kept a diaper pail in the bathroom and washed them in hot water ever couple of days. I also bought wash clothes specifically for diapering and used them instead of wipes.

I use the "old" cloth diapers, with the plastic waterproofs and the nappy liners. The liners are disposable ones - and they basically hold most of the poop.

I have two buckets in my bathroom - one for pee and the other for the dirty diapers. They bucket that holds the poo ones has a stronger soloution of the diaper cleaning agent.

I'll be honest I have quite a lot of diapers - as I asked for them in my stork parties - glodinia is the best here that one can get. Try get approx 40+ in the right size, that way when the weather is horrible you still have some clean.

I empty out the water in the loo and then wash them with normal baby washing powder and line dry them. Between the bleach in the buckets and the sun while they are on the line they come out nice and white.

I change my dd cloth diaper everytime she seems to be a little grumpy as they do feel wet after one pee, but I not had any problem with a bum rash due to cloth diapers. I only ever use disposables when we go out to the shops - as I dont want to carry around a ripe one.

Definately check out Diaperswappers. Tons of great information. For me, i'm not into the pins and prefolds. I much rather prefer pockets or AIO. If you want to save $$$, prefolds are the way to go though. Also remember resale is fantastic with cloth.

Good to hear others trying cloth diapers. I've cloth diapered my 5 children over the past 12 years. I'm so glad I stumbled upon it so long ago. But it's change so much since my oldest was in diapers. There are so many choices, just do search and you'll get alot of info. Candy

I love cloth too! When DS was younger (birth to 6 mos.) I mainly used prefolds with Bummis wraps and Snappis (a great alternative to diaper pins). As he got older and more mobile I have switched to Fuzzi Bunz. They are trimmer, more absorbent and his clothes fit better over them. They are more expensive though, but remember you can always use them on the next babe too. The problem I run into is that I get too excited over diapers (go figure ) and it's easy for me to over-buy them just to try new styles. But I just think of how much better it is for the environment than disposables. Even my DH loves the cloth dipes

Cloth diapering can definitely be overwhelming these days!! I am cding my 12 wk old dd and have been since she was about 6 wks old. I love it!! It is not nearly as big a deal and people seem to think it is. I actually think it's easier than disposables because I hate to take out the trash!
Another great resource is diaperpin.com. There is a great forum where you can ready other mamas questions/ideas about cloth, and ask your own questions as you get started. You will find that lots of mamas who cd get a little addicted to it - I know I have!
I think it can be as simple and inexpensive or as overwhelming and really expensive as you make it to be. My best advice is to try a few different things at first to see what works best for you, but don't invest a ton of money into one thing to start with b/c it may not work well for you or your LO. Like a pp said, if you have any questions about it, you can pm me too! Good Luck - you're going to have fun if you decide to make the switch. I think it is definitely worth it!

I am still using cloth diapers for my toddler. I really like them. I can't believe more people don't use them. It can be confusing with all the products on the market. I use diaper service quality prefolds and place them in a wrap. You do need to change the diapers a bit more frequently and the diapers do require a few washes to keep clean. I personally think it is worth it. I can't stand to see the waste of disposables.
Some other advantages I have found to cloth diapering are: 1) less diaper rashes because of more frequent changing and 2) cloth diapered babies tend to potty train earlier. So far my toddler is the only one in my mommie group that is showing an interest in potty training. She is also the only one in cloth diapers.
