This one is sure to have a major effect on your pocketbook!! And I can't wait to hear the reports of how much money you were able to save with this months' challenge!!

Here's the challenge: UNPLUG any unused appliances or other electrical devices - WHEN NOT IN USE - in your home for one month!!

This would include:
1. washers and dryers
2. microwaves with digital clock readouts
3. cell phone chargers (I'm SO bad about leaving mine plugged in for convenience sake!!)
4. TVs, DVD players, VCRs, Video game players, or any other TV-related equipment (in kids' rooms as well!!)
5. lamps (especially those plugged into outlets in rarely-used rooms)
6. A/C units
7. ...and anything else you can think of that you leave plugged in on a daily/monthly basis!!

Let's see how much $$ we can save this month!!

It's amazing how much energy is wasted when things are plugged in - but NOT USED!!
I guarantee you'll see a difference on next months' electric bill!!

On A Side Note: My sister saved $60 on her electric bill one month after she unplugged JUST her washer and dryer when not in use!! So, it can make a BIG difference!!

Anyone care to join me??

Wow. I'm amazed that it is that much savings. Cool.
I unplug most things but I don't unplug the washer/dryer (never thought of that) or tv gadgets.
I could do the lamps & washer/dryer but unplugging the tv stuff would be challenge. I would need to move the entertainment center out to get to everything.

We just went out and also bought the CFL lightbulbs so i'm hoping not only by unplugging stuff i see a difference with the light bulb replacements.

Good for you!!

I'd be willing to bet that you DO see a significant decrease in your electric bill JUST from switching out the lightbulbs!!

Let us know at the end of the month how much of a difference the new bulbs made on this months' electric bill!!

Just by unplugging the washer and dryer, and the lamps, I bet that would save TONS of electricity!!

Post at the end of the month, and let us know how much money you've saved!!

We use a power strip with an off switch for things that have plugs hidden behind cabinets. (TV, stereo, VRC etc) The power strip is set in a place that's easy to reach and we just flip it off, cutting power to everything at once

Has anyone received an electric bill yet this month? Or does yours come next month?

I'm interested in hearing how much of a difference "unplugging" made on your bills!!

Don't forget to post once your bill comes!!
