I am living in Maui, HI for the next year. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on saving money. Everything is expensive here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Jackie

I live in Oahu but have a sister living on Maui. Maui is more expensive than here I know. I'll email her to see if she has found any tricks for saving money.

I can't help you but I just wanted to say that I'd eat PB&J's every day to get to live in Maui! Good luck!

OMG - I want to come!!! Enjoy the year....you'll catch up later on in life. We went to Maui for our Honeymoon and then back again for our 20th (4 years ago) with the kids. Milk prices were outrageous because they have to import everything, but you only live once. Life goes too quickly....sit on the beach taking in the scenery....you won't spend any money and will be saying life is good. I know what you are saying, though, it is expensive, but worth every penny.

We found several money saving tips when visiting a few years ago.

Pick up the visitor travel guides. They have coupons in them for resturants and activities. So if you don't have a coupon you choose a different place to eat. Get take out food to avoid paying for drinks, appatizers and desserts.

At the grocery, buy a whole ham and have the meat dept slice/shave it for sandwiches. Stock up on non perisables when they are on sale.

Buy local produce at road side stands. No need to pay the grocer. If you notice a tree in a neighbors yard ask if you may pick some. Most of the time they have had their fill or don't know what to do with the extra.

When your thirsty stop in at Hilo Hattie.. They have the best free juice on the island.. I love that stuff.

More advice in person...
