It is most DEFINITELY nesting!!! There's no way my "normal" self would give a rip about everything around here...but now...LOOK OUT! But hey, I figure now is as good time as any - get it done now, and down the road I won't have so much junk to keep tripping over.

It also doesn't help that I had to leave my job in August because of the pregnancy - so now I'm fairly homebound. I'm not on bed rest, but am on limited activity because of a "new" heart problem - which means I have an extremely hard time getting out, doing much etc. Just going grocery shopping for 1/2 hour will set my heart off, and I'm then down for the count for the rest of the day. Doc says to lay low, and hopefully we can get through pregnancy ok, and hopefully it will go away after I have the baby (very irregular heartbeat, LOTS of skipped, extra and mis-timed beats, and a lot of problems with it speeding up past 150 bpm for no or little reason).

But decluttering - that's something I can plan, and slowly do - take a box out of the upstairs closet, sit at the comp for a while. Go back, sort, then go sit for a while etc, etc, etc. Most of my other activities (gardening, working the dogs, walking, etc) are too much for now. So, the house it is!

Just a thought I skimmed thru your post I was wondering if you had any place that would sell it on ebay for you I have seen this where you take your things they will do all the work and sell it like a consignment shop they will get a percentage but it might make more money that way good luck!

Personally, all the family stuff like silver and crystal, I wouldn't give away. I'd either find a family member who wanted it, or else save it until one did. But that's just me. I'd give most any body part to be able to have more than just my great grandmother's silver, I'd love some of the family crystal, but it was given away many years ago and all that's left are my mother's stories about how nice the pieces were, and how much they meant to the various owners and the stories of how they were gotten, as best as she can recall. But then, I'm into the whole geneology thing and wanting to have stories and information about each person, to make them 'real"

A few years ago, we had a lot of "stuff". Closets were packed, bookshelves overflowing with "books to sell". We lost everything during Hurricane Katrina. Suddenly, all that stuff just didn't matter.

Since then, I've no problem with throwing stuff away. If we don't LOVE it, it's gone. We keep things simple. I'm careful about buying things to decorate or whatnot. We've had to move a few times since then, and DH was in one state and I was in another for awhile. We have a few "doubles" of things, but other than that...it's only what we really need and use.

I haven't read all the responses, but I'd say donating it and claiming the tax deduction is the easiest way. You get a little $$ compensation (in the form of a tax deduction) while your stuff doesn't end up in a landfill somewhere.

I wouldn't dump it - at least donate it. There are consignment stores that will sell things on Ebay for you - I know "I Sold It" is one. See if there are any in your area. You can dump your stuff off and claim 40-60% of what it makes with very little effort.

I am feeling the same frustration with things that are worth $$ but I am unable to sell so I don't want to get rid of it. I have finally sucked it up and I'm going to list it all on Freecycle. It needs to go whether I get $$ off it or not. No matter how frustrated I get I cannot put it in the trash though - I'll take it to Goodwill if no one on freecycle wants it.

I understand how you feel; sometimes, I just want to toss everything and start over. Remember that there is cost to storing excess items, whether it's space, peace of mind, etc. I would just donate the average/good stuff and junk the trash. If you've not had a yard sale within the past 2 years, then it's time to let the clutter go.
